Bush: All religions pray to 'same God'
WorldNetdaily.com ^ | October 7, 2007

President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" – an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.

Bush made the statement Friday in an interview with Al Arabiya reporter Elie Nakouzi.

Al Arabiya is Al Jazeerah's top competitor in the Mideast.

As the president and Nakouzi walked from the Oval Office to the Map Room in the White House residence, Nazouki asked, "But I want to tell you – and I hope this doesn't bother you at all – that in the Islamic world they think that President Bush is an enemy of Islam – that he wants to destroy their religion, what they believe in. Is that in any way true, Mr. President?"

"No, it's not," said Bush. "I've heard that, and it just shows [sic] to show a couple of things: One, that the radicals have done a good job of propagandizing. In other words, they've spread the word that this really isn't peaceful people versus radical people or terrorists, this is really about the America not liking Islam.

"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that – we had a person blow up our – blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people.

Thankfully God has equipped us all to make our way in this world without needing a lot of supernatural intervention. At the end of the day, we all get by.

Truth is, we don't exactly get by without intervention. This world could blow up tomorrow. Every day we live is a day of mercy. We have no idea how many times God does intervene in the lives of those who ask him, and more importantly, for those who don't. He helps them anyway, because He loves all. Few it seems, look for his hidden hand, much less thank him for it.

We need to count our blessings and thank God more. If we did, we would be happier with what we have every day...at the very least the gift of life. I can't tell you how many times God has bailed me out of a jam, but I can tell you I am thankful He did!

You both missed my point. Islam was created by Mohamed using a grab bag mix from Judaism and Christianity. Thus the object of the Muslims is intended to be the God of Abraham. Of course they don’t accept the Trinity, but neither do Jews.

The question is then, are they worshiping God in a way he finds pleasing? Given that they treat Mohamed as infallible and think of heaven as a carnal pleasure land, I would say not.

You are free of course to argue that by trying to shape God to fit their image, they have in fact created a separate god. Which is a credible argument.

There is no case that Allah and God are the same. Christians believe that Jesus is God. The Muslims believe that Jesus is a man. Either Jesus is Gor or not; there’s no way to square that circle.

So you are also arguing that Jews and Christians don't share the same God. I think my point is the better one. Not whether its the same God, but whether the Muslims are actually honoring Him, vice using His name for their own self-serving ends.

Truth is, we don't exactly get by without intervention.

How do you know? If God were intervening more, wouldn't it be apparent? I agree that we owe everything to God, but God is subtle. God placed us in a well designed universe and made us competent to survive and be happy in it. There's a mercy in that, but it's not an intervening kind of mercy. When I look back at all the jams I've been in, it's clear that what got me through was my actions or the actions of others. I see no evidence that God intervened. Nevertheless, I'm grateful to God because I think he pays attention to what I'm doing and is -- I don't know quite how to express it -- is infused within the things that happen in my life though he does not intervene. He is subtly and organically part of the flow of my life. If he does intervene, the interventions are so subtle that they aren't perceivable as interventions. Based on my experience, if you're looking for intervention you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Maybe not specifically, but the hadith teaches it, and they hold the hadith up as authoritative and talk this quote up all over the Islamic world -

The problem that we Westerners have is that we don't understand the Muslims very well. If you ask a Muslim about 9/11 the vast majority will condemn it. If you ask the same Muslims about instituting Sharia law in the US they are all for it, in fact they believe it is inevitable.

Probably the biggest hurdle for us to overcome in our thinking is that we don't really believe that Muslims can really believe their religion. They do and it makes them very angry when the world doesn't correspond with their mental map. Muslims don't really consider us equals, more like talking monkeys, until we submit and yet Western society is superior in every way. This causes a disconnect with reality that is expressed in violence. It is truly a mental disorder.

This is absolutely despicable! All religions are not equal, and all religions do NOT believe in the same God. That Bush continues to push his “Islam is a religion of peace” BS....he continues to affirm that my own personal doubts as to his professed Christianity as certainly warranted.

Heresy !!...

Well..maybe God's more, shall we say, dramatic with me than He is with you. Please understand, I am not disputing that your experience of Him is any less real than mine--only different. :)

Paramahansa Yogananda wrote that God loves us as much as he loves his greatest saints. That is a great comfort to me, especially when I fall down and fall short, which is to say, every day.

Allah commands his minions to kill and die, to enslave and plunder, and to wreak vengeance and havoc for him. Yahweh God came to Earth as Yahshua to die for us.

Have you not read the Old Testament? Start with The Book of Numbers 31 it covers all of those

People are in the same state of denial with Islam as people were with Nazism prior to WWII.

> Have you not read the Old Testament?

Yes I have. The ancient Jews were commanded to displace the people of Canaan, because the people there committed human sacrifice, and because the people there would be committed to exterminating God’s people, the Jews.

The Jews were never commanded to spread their faith by the sword over all the world and subjugate it. Only the land of Canaan.

And, have you read the New Testament?

The testament of Grace?

Christianity is the ONLY faith that preaches salvation by Grace and Liberty to choose.

Okay, Bush said to an "ambush question" from a Muslim reporter...

"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that – we had a person blow up our – blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people."

Well, I wouldn't like a preacher that made "noises" like that in church, from the pulpit, in preaching Christ to the world. Of course not! I would say to get rid of him.

But, in this case, Bush is not that preacher in church, and he was hit with that question, which one could consider to be an ambush question, and the answer is going to get printed all over the Muslim world, for sure -- especially so, if he can't make it sound like he's "not out to get the entire Muslim world."

So, in this case, Bush is "parsing" his words very carefully, and defining them in a "political way" leaving himself a lot of "maneuvering room" so that he's not saying that Allah is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and he's not saying that Allah has more in common with Satan, but rather, is basically "lying through his political teeth" in order to placate the larger numbers of Muslim peoples, so that they don't go out and decide to join in a jihad themselves and/or give the "crazy mullahs" all the more ammunition for more of their insane jihad, as if they haven't found enough excuses for it now...

Star Traveler

Jews and Christians have the same God, since we (Christians) have a Scripture the Jewish Holy Books. What is clear is that the Muslims do not worship the same (Trinitarian) God of the Christians, as Pres. Bush intimated.
