President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.
Bush made the statement Friday in an interview with Al Arabiya reporter Elie Nakouzi.
Al Arabiya is Al Jazeerah's top competitor in the Mideast.
As the president and Nakouzi walked from the Oval Office to the Map Room in the White House residence, Nazouki asked, "But I want to tell you and I hope this doesn't bother you at all that in the Islamic world they think that President Bush is an enemy of Islam that he wants to destroy their religion, what they believe in. Is that in any way true, Mr. President?"
"No, it's not," said Bush. "I've heard that, and it just shows [sic] to show a couple of things: One, that the radicals have done a good job of propagandizing. In other words, they've spread the word that this really isn't peaceful people versus radical people or terrorists, this is really about the America not liking Islam.
"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that we had a person blow up our blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people.

I hope this wrathful GOD is going to kick ASS and take names in the list of Homosexual Clerical Sex Abusers in the Catholic Church and their Enablers in the Hierarchy.
Amen, Amen!!
I think that a strong case can be made that Allah and God are one, but that Muslims do not worship him, they worship Mohamed, who was a false profit. Allah exists only as the all powerful enforcer of Mohamed's promises.
Try reading the words of Teddy Roosevelt, I find his writings wonderful.
So much for monotheism.
> I think that a strong case can be made that Allah and God
> are one
You think so?
Then go ahead and make it.
Yahweh, the God of the Bible, calls the Jews His chosen people.
“allah”, the god of the Koran, calls for the extermination of the Jews.
That’s just ONE glaring difference.
Here we definitely agree!!!
The difference is much bigger, but American Muslims may liberalize Muslimism the way American Catholics liberalized Catholicism.
Through the 19th Century and into the 20th, the popes thought to equally condemn atheistic communism and secular liberalism; e.g., protestant northern Europeans. But, in the 20th Century, and largely because of the American bishops, the popes came to see that democratic and capitalistic values could co-exist with Christian values although we must always also affirm the values of equal rights (including the right to life), the family, and charity for the poor. Nowadays, conservative protestants and Catholics in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world often find themselves allied in promoting Christian values.
The violence of radical Muslims is clearly worse than the violence than was ever involved in the conflict in western Christianity. It is somewhere between that level of violence and the level of violence of atheistic totalitarians like Hitler, Stalin and Mao; and, radical Muslim violence may rise to the level of violence of Hitlet et al depending on the success of the radicals in restoring the Caliphate. So, the challenge to moderate Muslims, to suppress the violence of their co-religionists, is enormous. But, if moderate Muslims can do this, it would be a great service to all mankind.
I have thought about the promise that God has given to us, that Jesus will return and establish his kingdom. The Bible says when he returns, God’s Name will be one, meaning that all the people of the world will know God’s character. Implicit in this, is that God’s Name will not be one until Jesus returns. So, wanting Jesus to return, and to return now, I have accepted that until he does, we who seek to know God are going to have to live with others seeking to know God who differ from us.
Only an ignoramus or a propagandist can say they worship the same God. Sadly in this instance because Bush has not taken time to study islam on his own he is easy prey for lies.
There is no case that Allah and God are the same. Christians believe that Jesus is God. The Muslims believe that Jesus is a man. Either Jesus is Gor or not; there’s no way to square that circle.
All poor, simple W said was that there is only one God, and that when they pray to Him, whether they call him YHWH, Allah, cosmic muffin or hairy thunderer, they are praying to the One and Only.
What those who are sending their prayers upward believe about Him does not alter His nature, not even one little bit.
I think there is a hidden side to religions. that hidden side was very commonly referred to as the “Mysteries” in ancient religions and Christianity had its own “mysteries”. They unite the religions as coming form a single source. There was a face for the religion for the masses and a secret side for the illumined.
That being said there are two religions that do not seem to have it in their scriptures. One of them is the Mormons and the other one is Islam. There is also another point that if a group soul of a religion becomes poisoned with hate and violence it will bring down the religion. For those reasons I am very dubious of Islam. With a war on terrorism I can understand Bush’s sucking up to Islamites so we can get what Little help we can get (we need it). But it is up to US to tell the truth about Islam.
Good point. It's quite understandable the President didn't answer "yes" and call Islam what it is (a cult of death) when asked by that interviewer if it were true that he wants to destroy both it and its adherents. Doing so would've been insane, obviously. But at the same time he didn't need to go to the other (and in this case false and ridiculous) extreme and say that Islam preaches peace and that all religions pray to the same Deity.
As you said, he could've simply said "no." ...and then added that the actions of the U.S. over the past few years, releasing tens of millions of Islamics from tyranny and oppression, proves it.
No, Jorge, the don’t.
Wrong.
Again.
Do you believe there are multiple gods?
I don't. I believe in One God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of Heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
So how, exactly, do the false beliefs of the muslims create for you many gods? When they pray to Allah, they are either praying to nothing, or to God. Which one do you understand it to be?
They cannot create a false god by their prayers.
I used to think that way. I stopped somewhere between Beslan & 9/11/01.
This is in error. Only Muslims become outraged. lol
I think most of the people here are getting a little carried away. Gees. Lighten up and love one another people.
