Poll: Should A Police Officer, Who Is Married To An Illegal Alien, Lose His Job?
Needs Of The Many ^

Take the poll at the bottom of this post.
That's the choice we in Vegas are asking Sheriff Gilespie to make. Last Sunday we learned that one of our police officers was married to an illegal alien. While our local paper themselves is down the middle on the issue ... there are several reporters that are pro-illegal, and they write plenty of articles on the subject.
Many of those reporters, like Lynnette Curtis, are always looking for the sympathy angle in the immigration debate. You know what I'm talking about ... the whole love angle, and don't split up families, etc.
That appears to be the angle Ms. Curtis took with this article. A police officer puts his name, and his picture, in the local newspaper to expose that he himself is breaking the law that he is sworn to uphold.

This is absurd. He shouldn’t lose his job.

I thought that any alien who married a citizen would be granted automatic citizenship?

Didn’t you see the movie “Green Card”? They stopped that a decade ago.

So, he must file paperwork for her and didn’t?
If he didn’t then the wife and the anchor baby must be deported and he should be legally punished.

But he is a cop. Maybe they should just suspend him with pay for a while and let him back on the force later. We can get her a green card too.

So the guy tries to make a political issue of it, grants an interview and all that, rather than just filing the paperwork to legalize his wife? I wouldn’t fire him. Just reassign him to duty making sure gays don’t use public restrooms for illicit sexual encounters.

Jaysun..I realize it’s wrong to suggest you are wrong :)
But...you are wrong. I speak from the perspective of a retired cop (25 proud years of service) and an Internal Affairs Investigator...This guy has no leg to stand on. Period.
He knew or should have known she was not legal. I understand the love factor, but if you start out wrong, you’ll never be right.
He is clearly in violation of the law and that is that. He can still be married, but he can’t keep his job.

I thought that any alien who married a citizen would be granted automatic citizenship? I think that might have been true some time ago but it's not true now.Today,an alien married to a US citizen can count on getting eventual US citizenship if he/she can convince the INS that they're in a genuine marriage (as opposed to a sham "marriage of convenience"),can pass a background check and meet other requirements.

The law states if you enter into the country illegally, you must leave and then return legally in order to become a resident. This officer knew that.

She can’t, no, because she entered the US illegally. She would still have to go back home, and re-enter legally, they could be separated up to 10 years.
And yes he should be fired.
