Fred Thompson is not the amazing conservative that his supporters make him out to be. Let's not forget what he said about John McCain.

So, do we need to run to Ron Paul or Duncan Hunter?

Fred Thompson is not the amazing conservative that his supporters make him out to be.

One shouldn't be amazed when considering support for POTUS of the greatest nation on earth, one should just do what's best as an individual with reason.

“We are holding Rudy and Mitt to the fire about their past on abortion. Lets not forget Fred Thompson.”

Now how many decades ago did Fred make a pro-choice statement?

It is truly sad when ones’ favorite candidate is so pathetic that they have to attack others rather than pump up their own candidate.

What a surprise. A Duncan Hunter blogger trying to smear Thompson.

Doesn't matter what Thompson said about abortion back then. His voting record, 100% pro-life and 0% from NARAL, is all that matters.

Hunter supporters are really doing their candidate a disservice as he tailspins into obscurity.

Fred Thompson has a 100 percent pro-life voting record and has been endorsed by Right To Life.

In similiar fashion, Rudy Giulani made a pro-life statement in 1989 but since has been endorsed by abortionists. Are you stupid enough call Giuliani a pro-lifer?

By the way:

A very strong statement from Fred Thompson when he was running for congress.

A very strong statement from Fred Thompson when he served in the Senate was his 100% pro-life voting record. NARAL hates him.

National Right to Life loves Fred.

Abortions should be legal in all circumstances as long as the procedure is completed within the first trimester of the pregnancy. Link A very strong statement from Fred Thompson when he was running for congress.

Are the Fred-bashers still this stupid!!?

What he SAID many years ago was made up for by what he actually DID in Congress. His pro-life record was excellent and he received high ratings from pro-life groups and zero ratings from pro-abortion groups.

We've been over and over this statement so many times on Free Republic, but we can always count on some idiot or newbie (or both) to bring it up again to try to hurt Fred Thompson.

Is he the most conservative candidate in the race? No. Is he the most conservative candidate who is demonstrating that he has a chance of winning the race? Yes. Is he conservative enough. Yes. His record, while not perfect, is good enough. He's certainly more conservative than our current President and that's good enough for me.

God Bless Duncan Hunter. I am sure he is as true of a conservative as any running. But he has NO CHANCE IN HELL.

Why?

Surely not because he is inarticulate... Bush was that and worse, yet he won.

Surely not because he is a politician from Calfornia... Reagan was that and he won.

Surely not because any good conservative can find fault with his message... his is about the best out there...

Then why?

Simply stated... he does not have a campaign!

He has wasted opportunity after opportunity, he has neglected his base of natural volunteers around the country, he has not fundraised to even the degree to which any other candidate has... he is dead last.

How did that happen? Simple. He hired morons and snake oil salesmen... ehr... saleswoman.. to be precise... and they have done utterly nothing except take his money and laugh as he sits at the bottom of the tank holding his breath.

This started when he put his son in charge of his campaign and it went out of the prying pan into the fire thereafter.

In short, Duncan Hunter is without question the most politically naive and incompetent man running.

God Bless him... as I sincerely wish this were not the case...

Well, in his defense, he appeared to prefer a number of limits on the procedure back in 1994. Compare that to any of the Ds.

Fred has shown he has not had the best judgment on many important issues. And even if he is proclaiming some things he did a ‘mistake’ or he has changed now, it ought to be a wake up call that this man has made them on major issues. Not the man to trust as President. But we are all supposed to fall in line because he ‘can win’. Rah rah rah. The party needs to change its ways and Thompson is not the person to lead. He NEVER has.

Fred has a lot to prove, especially since he’s supposedly drawing people from the current administration. That’s down right scary on a number of counts.

The biggest difference between Thompson and McCAin/Bush is the latter two have CONTEMPT for their base, and Thompson doesent (as far as we know).

I am no big fan of Fred Thompson. But I can't agree with your post. Even if true, he changed his position on abortion years ago, has a pro-life record and is running on a conservative plank.

People can and do sincerely change their minds regarding issues, can they not?
