Some of you have been emailing me and enjoying my trials as I search for love in Blue Boston. I'm a 42-year-old non-religious Republican, anti-abortion, pro-W, etc. and the pickings are slim. But I managed to meet a fantastic woman, perfect for me in every way--I work in social services and am a fiction writer, and she is into all that stuff, and we just click as I have with no woman since my last relationships broke up.
I just had a discussion with her in which she asked about my politics. I have a No Political Discussions With Liberal Friends policy, and I thought it would suit this relationship. I was right. After I talked a little about my beliefs, she went on a tirade about how Bush caused 9/11, how the WTC was blown up by demolition charges, how Bush is a certifiable moron, and we've killed hundreds of thousands for no good reason, and on and on and on. I sat there, nodding, saying nothing.
This just happened this afternoon, and I'm kinda numb. We have only just started dating but we connect on many levels, but politics is SUCH an important part of my life that this is like a virus introduced into the relationship.
Any comments?
Model-hot--why the heck do you think I'm having such a conflict here?! ;)
Always remember Slim's first rule of relationships... What initially attracts eventually dismays.
But if she likes spanking, all bets are off.
Do her.
She describes her politics as VERY liberal, and I'm assuming she got all this from the usual suspects. She was very precise in her detailing of the events of 9-11, so if we were to debate this she would have chapter and verse from the Big Book o' Moonbatology to quote. She's an otherwise intelligent woman.
This situation just sucks.
You can't talk her out of it, but you can show by example. When a big issue comes up, just point out the truth but don't get into an arguement about it. My husband was a union liberal when we got married. He was all for Clinton. I just kept quiet about it and durring the first Clinton administration, I pointed out things wrong and slowly he began to see the light. He is a staunch Republican, now. He was totally against abortion so I told him the dems were for it. He didn't believe me. I had to show him by their votes, etc.
No matter how hawt some gal is, there is some guy somewhere tired of her $#!+
This relationship stuff is too much work, I'm going to stick to screwin around until I find me a Boston conservababe!
It's also entirely possible that, after living in a rabidly liberal workplace/state, she's merely parroting what she believes she must say to survive.
She may even think that you believe those things. You can discuss what you believe with her, and then ask her what she thinks about it! She will either flee, or be intrigued.
She might really feel/think/believe differently if she had a chance to meet other people who did not roundly condemn her for having an independent thought...
What does she look like? My girlfriend is a liberal loon and generally won't discuss politics with me as most liberals won't. When she does I just make fun of her ideas.
Just have her explain how 911 was accomplished and ask her why OBL took credit for it if Bush did it?
Good answer. Very good answer. Thank you!
Dump her now.
Good post!
Where did that theory come from, anyway? Even Wikipedia points out that OPEC has only 40% of the world's oil, and that is the countries collectively, compared to our reserves at about 41% I never can get the whole war for oil thing. It's just ludicrous.
Date someone else.
A hot biker chick--not the real kind who are sometimes disappointing, but the Hollywood kind; long legs, great measurements, long hair, great eyes; also she's confident without being bitchy, very intelligent and funny, and has her own business. I mean, she's so hot I keep pinching myself (figuratively) because I can't believe she's fallen so hard for me. Now I see the Dark Side like in all those Deal with the Devil stories.
Befor; I am completely Pro-Life.
As Dennis Prager says, the most important element of a relationship is shared values. You can't ignore that. I suggest you get out to western Mass. where there are more conservatives, perhaps go to some Republican political meeting and meet some nice chicks that way.
I just have to say it, but maybe - just maybe - she likes you? Is it possible that you have enough going for you that she would fall in head-over-heels in love with you?
Is it possible that your ship finally came in, and that she's the one, and you will bring her to the light? I've seen it happen in my own personal life, so I can say, yes, miracles do happen...
Just a thought, but maybe she loves you.
AAAIEEEEE! That's a worse sign than her rampant loony Liberalism! If she is a spendthrift with HER money, imagine what it'll be like when she has access to YOUR money too. (Spoken from someone who's been there, done that!)
