Vanity:What do you do if you discover you're dating an ultra-liberal conspiracy believer?
Me ^ | 11/16/06 | Darkwolf377

Some of you have been emailing me and enjoying my trials as I search for love in Blue Boston. I'm a 42-year-old non-religious Republican, anti-abortion, pro-W, etc. and the pickings are slim. But I managed to meet a fantastic woman, perfect for me in every way--I work in social services and am a fiction writer, and she is into all that stuff, and we just click as I have with no woman since my last relationships broke up.

I just had a discussion with her in which she asked about my politics. I have a No Political Discussions With Liberal Friends policy, and I thought it would suit this relationship. I was right. After I talked a little about my beliefs, she went on a tirade about how Bush caused 9/11, how the WTC was blown up by demolition charges, how Bush is a certifiable moron, and we've killed hundreds of thousands for no good reason, and on and on and on. I sat there, nodding, saying nothing.

This just happened this afternoon, and I'm kinda numb. We have only just started dating but we connect on many levels, but politics is SUCH an important part of my life that this is like a virus introduced into the relationship.

Any comments?

What an excellent response, thank you so much.

All lightheartedness aside, we DO have to make an attempt to deal with each other, and since I have so many good qualities ;) maybe I can show her we can all just get along.

Two things to do ~ first, be careful that you avoid her cooking. Secondly, gradually introduce her to FreeRepublic.

Ditch the loon. Mental midgetry can be contagious, and we'd hate to see that happen to you.

Alternately, send her to this thread and share her responses with us.

Run don't walk to the nearest exit. Sorry but no matter what kind of "babe" this one is, what you basically have is a "nut case." Nut cases don't get better with age, they merely end up looking like Cindy Sheehan.

I note that you describe yourself as a "non-religious" conservative person - presumably that means that you don't really care for the institution of marriage, just the sleeping arrangements. Usually one finds more liberal girl friends who will settle for "intimacy without committment relationships" than conservative ones.

I thought of Carville and his wife, too. They do alright. You must have been stunned, but why not ask, "do you have proof? What makes you think that?" Hannity does it all the time with his lib callers, and the always stammer and never come up with an answer.

It's possible that she's not politically 'awake' yet. I come from a long line of Democrats and it took me until 2000 to realize that the parties have effectively swapped places some time ago. Of the collective brain that is our voting populace, I sincerely believe only 40% is being used! ;o)

GOOD LUCK!

Can you get her to post on FR and let us talk to her? If she isn't zotted you might have a slim shot.

actually, someone this gullible is pretty rare (at least in my world). you may have struck a gold mine.

If she has money, it would be a serious breach of ethics to allow her to keep it. Have her buy things for you, and maybe make a donation to FreeRepublic (just tell her it is a crypto-anarchist site that is getting the real "truth" out).

Also, she probably has girlfriends. Since it is unlikely any of them are more stable mentally, hit on them behind her back. You will be successful because moonbats are by nature cheating, conniving people. Use that to your advantage until you tire of the crowd, then dump them and go to a clinic.

No, I'm looking for marriage, and not just someone to sleep around with. For someone who's not a believer I am basically Judeo-Christian in my values, though yes, I do believe in sex outside of marriage.

Run away as fast as you can thank the God, that you don't believe in, for this opened door/window moment to her closed mind. Now you know.

Probably up to about 12 years ago, this might have handled by most people, not me or most of my relatives.

Today, the hatred of the left towards GW, our country, religion and our morality is beyond treatment or redemption.

I want nothing to do with several so called friends, a couple of relatives, neighbors and people I dealt with on a professional or business level who are lunatic liberals.

This separation/elimination process started during the Clintoon Impeachment, gained speed during the 2000 elections and reached absolute zero tolerance with these hatriotics in 2004. The recent elections will drive more lunatic liberals away from us as their agendas are made clear by Piglosi and the other rat thugs in Congress.

LOL! You're killing me.

You have struck on something that really amuses me--she's been spending money from the beginning. I insist she not buy things for me, but she goes ahead and does so, anyway. Taking advantage of the mentally ill isn't my thing, though.

I'm engaged to one so I can fully understand your dilemna. We had never discussed politics until the 2004 election and wham! there it was (and this was after dating him for 2 years and being engaged for one.)

In every other way, we mesh. The funny thing is he doesn't realize how conservative his views actually are but you can't point that out because he absolutely, positively refuses to listen.

His Mom would vote democrat if she bothered to vote but she's not hardline like he is and is actually pretty apathetic about politics. Based upon things which happened in his past I can understand his distrust even though I disagree with him.

There was a timeframe where he'd bring something up and if I disagreed he'd do the typical liberal trick of interrupting and over-talking me. We finally reached a point where we agreed to disagree and we no longer discuss politics with each other.

After Kerry made his infamous "botched" joke he did come and ask me what I thought about it. I responded by telling him I'd be glad to tell him what I thought but he'd have to listen and not interrupt. He agreed to my conditions, he listened, he disagreed with my stance but he didn't interrupt and he heard me out.

The thing is though, we had a 3 year history before we found out we were on opposite sides of the political fence. Also, as I mentioned, he has conservative values and he acts accordingly.

I do have high hopes for him though as he started his own business 18 months ago.

If I were you I would have at least a couple more dates and without being obvious inquire into how exactly she came to hold these beliefs. If she has actively searched them out then it might be hopeless. However she may have "absorbed" them from her surroundings. I say this as someone who lived for a long timw in San Francisco. There's also another FR posting about a person in NY whose child was accepted at West Point and how they were treated by neighbors. For people who have never lived in an ulta-liberal environment you cannot imagine how pervasive it can be at every level of society, to the point where people accept it and believe it because it is all around them. That can be changed.
Back in the day I was completely nonpolitical but nevertheless I donated money (to name a few) to the ACLU, Amnesty International, Emily's List and others of that ilk. Why? I has no strong political beliefs of any type but participating in that sort of action in an ultra-liberal location like SF, NYC, Boston garners social approval and acceptance. I am sure many people are like I was in those locations. It's kind of like it comes with the territory, living there and all. I was also registered Democrat and gave money regularly to Willie Brown because it was part of the "cost of doing business."

How was I saved? In 1994 I started a business and bought advertising on KSFO. I knew nothing about talk radio and was not political at all but it fit the demographics I was looking for (and more importantly the price was right). I started listening to it to catch my ads and they had this new guy who had just started - Michael Savage. Now I realize he's a bit out there but that is heady stuff for someone who had never in the slightest been exposed to it. Then I started listening to Rush and the rest is predictable. But I met the woman who would become my wife in San Francisco and she was of the same background as me and very casual timed doses of Savage in the car on the way home from work brought her around. Now she listens to Rush all morning.

Taking advantage of the mentally ill isn't my thing, though.

It's a fine line between mental illness and just being a damn fool. I play poker, and it is my duty to take money from fools.

Actually, your situation (and most of the responses here) worry me because I am getting back in the dating scene. It's tough out there. I live in a small midwestern town, where most of the women are decent, but there are damn few available. You live in a big city with lots of available women, most of whom are moonbats. Similar situations, different problems :-)
