Today's thoughts on Lebanon, Israel and Hezbollah

Though I find a sudden deep concern by some for the civilian population of Lebanon quite moving, I find the slaughtered Israeli civilian just as moving as well as the kidnapped Israeli soldiers being held hostage.

A race and nation facing genocidal maniacs certainly has the right to defend itself and to try to crush those who seek its extermination. Israel has not specifically targeted civilians and in fact has done as much or more to try to spare the civilian population than we have in Iraq.

Before their recent raids to destroy Hezbollah outposts and strongholds they foretold and endangered their own attacks by warning the civilian population to flee.

Sounds pretty hard hearted to me. I hope Israel kicks the living stuffing out of Hezbollah. I haven't forgotten who killed several hundred US marines and held and tortured American hostages for years. Apparently some others have....

To their credit even most responsible and 'mainstream' democrats are supporting Israel's most recent moves. (Former) Sen. Mitchell has been making the round lately as a 'talking head' and he's been awesome in his condemnation of the most recent Islamo fascists to rear their ugly heads and that Israel has both the right and the obligation to crush them utterly.

In many ways, this is probably the most unifying subject you'll ever see in politics. Amazing, but heartening for a people who are fighting for their lives, their freedom and their national survival.

If anything, this shows that the policy of appeasement and caution can be catastrophic. For the last six years Hezbollah has been armed and supplies with some 13,000 rockets from Tehran via Syria in its preparation for its war of annihilation against Israel. And Israel has been constrained by international pressure to allow this to happen without 'nipping it in the bud'. Those who seek to finish what Hitler started do not deserve our sympathy nor do those who harbor them.

By the way:

Lebanon's army: 70,000 men plus tanks.

Hezbollah: 6,000 fanatics.

Lebanon has given them refuge, places in government, and in effect harbored, aided and abetted those who practice a genocidal ideology. I suppose we wouldn't hold the Mexican government responsible if they were doing the same thing across the border from us as thousands of rockets rained down on Houston or Dallas....

Lebanon is getting punished for allowing the cancer of Hezbollah to fester and grow on the body of Lebanon for decades. Israel is bombing the roads, brides and airport that are used to send Hezbollah the thousands of rockets now raining down on Israeli cities. The hardcore support areas of this terrorist mini state are being hit hard and let's be honest, war is always hardest on the poor, the young and the old.

My father and I were talking about this the other day. We feel for the civilian caught in the middle but the ultimate ones responsible for that civilians suffering is the one who used that civilians mosque to store weapons, his neighborhood to launch rockets, his family as a shield against Israeli retaliation and his death as a propaganda weapon.

All roads in this fight lead to Tehran and its fanatical hatred of the state of Israel and the ongoing jihad to drive the Jews into the sea. Lay the blame where it belongs, not on those who are suffering a slow death by a thousand cuts and car bombs. This time, our little black turbaned Shia friends in southern Lebanon may have just gone a bit too far.

And what allies are 'abandoning' Israel? The US and the British are literally sending plane and boat loads of bombs to the Israelis as they need and request them. That's all the friends they need. Blair and Bush have let the Israelis off their usually very tight leash and let loose the dogs of war. The War on Terror has merely shifted battlefields for the moment, but the war and the struggle and even the participants change over time, but the heart of the matter remains intact and continuous.

Go IDF!

Hatred of Israel is a tool used by an unpopular government to get support from a population that has been conditioned to hate.

I have an idea. We'll separate the warring parties. The US will invite Israelis to live here and some other country can invite Hezb'allah to live there.

There must be some country, like Spain, or France, or Kofi Annan's Ghana, that would invite Hezb'allah to reside among them.
