Is the March of Dimes improving the health of babies?

The stated mission of the MARCH OF DIMES [MoD] is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. This organization carries out its intent through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies’ lives.

Gail Wilson, State director for the Illinois Chapter of MoD www.marchofdimes.com/illinois was quoted in the Pioneer Press recently: “We’re trying to make sure every baby born is as healthy as possible.”

“Walk America,” the organization’s largest fund raiser, kicks off its Chicago walk on Sunday, April 30th, gathering in thousands of participants for its cause. Last year, $3 million was raised in Illinois and $110 raised nationally. In Illinois alone, there are 23,300 premature births a year and 500,000 are expected nationwide. The number has been steadily increasing over the last 20 years.

However, what are we to think of the integrity and agenda of this charitable organization when it ignores the link between abortion and premature births?

At one time, the MoD web site included a statement that women with a history of three or more miscarriages or abortion may be at higher risk of premature delivery. According to the Elliot Institute [ www.afterabortion.org ], the risk of premature birth increases after only one induced abortion. The March of Dimes has removed this information, yet claims that the 27 percent rise in premature births over the last few decades “is a mystery.” *

Where is the mystery when at least 50 published international studies have shown significantly higher risks of premature birth and low birth weight deliveries among women with a history of abortion? Drinking, smoking and drug use also elevate the risk. Premature birth is the leading cause of neonatal death and is related to increased risks of cerebral palsy, vision and hearing loss, retardation, and other lifelong health problems. Brent Rooney, independent Canadian health researcher and activist on the Abortion/Cerebral Palsy link, has compiled a list of these studies: www.vcn.bc.ca/~whatsup/APB-Major.html

Dr. David Reardon, the director of the Elliot Institute, asks: “Has it updated its web site and literature to better prepare American couples to receive adequate prenatal care to avoid premature births when there is a history of induced abortion? No, March of Dimes has instead decided it must try even harder to cover up the abortion link to neonatal deaths and handicaps by removing even the vastly understated risk of premature birth after three or four abortions from their web site!”

The March of Dimes professes that its position on abortion is one of neutrality; a safe position if one is trying to collect donations from a diverse audience. However, contradicting that claim, the MoD encourages prenatal screening for birth defects suggesting that abortion is a valid treatment option. To target “unfit” children that do not “deserve to be born” clearly places the March of Dimes as a pro-abortion, eugenic-minded “charity.” The MoD also has had pro-abortion advocates in leadership positions and it’s policy statement reads that it “supports the use of fetal tissue research as one technique to broaden understanding of human biology and pregnancy outcome.”

What was formerly a venerable organization [ National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis] founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to fund a cure for polio - which affected thousands of children before the Salk vaccine was administered in l954 - has now become an organization that chooses to coverup the work and findings of scientific studies that have uncovered the “mystery” behind the increase of premature births since l980.

Women who have had abortions need to be especially careful about receiving fully-informed prenatal care in subsequent pregnancies. Will the March of Dimes save their babies?

Only in the sense that when you divide the number of defects by the number of kids who actually manage to be BORN, the number of defects has been reduced. What's not mentioned is the fact that the March of Dimes encourages 'search and destroy' amniocentisis to let parents know that their babies are likely to be born with some sort of defect, then 'encourages' them to abort the baby so as to not put the baby or themselves through the 'burden' of dealing with some disability.

When more parents choose abortion for children with defects, the number of children actually BORN with defects has been reduced, ergo, March of Dimes helps reduce birth defects in children.

When my daughter was born in 1968, she was premature, and had a reverse club foot. We had enough income to get by on, but by no means to cover such a massive expense.
My wife and daughter were in the pediatricians office, when a lady approached, and suggested that we go to the J. Hillis Miller Center, in Gainsville. By the time Mary was 10 or 11 months old, the leg and foot were near normal, and she was beginning to walk normally. The cost to us was the expense of getting her to Gainsville each Friday. March Of Dimes covered all else.
I owe a debt to March of Dimes, Dr. Homer Paschal, and Florence McQuaig, the local representative, for life.
That leg was strong and straight enough to get Mary through basic training at Ft. Dix, with flying colors.
I doubt she even remembers which leg it was, today.

"The March of Dimes professes that its position on abortion is one of neutrality;"

How can anyone be neutral on abortion, and expect pro-life support?

My 21 year old daughter was born with severe mental and physical disabilities and is unable to walk, talk, feed or bathe herself, and she must wear diapers. She nearly died something like eight times during her lifetime, from respiratory distress and pneumonia (sp?) to heart failure to seizures, one lasting an hour and fifteen minutes.

When she was young, I tried desperately to get her some help from the March of Dimes...and they were TOTALLY USELESS and COMPLETELY TURNED A DEAF EAR!

I will NEVER support or promote the March of Dimes! As far as my experience with them goes, THE MARCH OF DIMES IS A FRAUD! When you REALLY need help, they are NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!!!

A while back I read a bunch of incriminating evidence AGAINST March of Dimes. I'm sure they've helped many. But, they seem to be playing the game of being two-faced(We'll appear to the public, to be doing good, but behind the scenes we do wrong). Their push for abortion is just the tip of the iceberg. I think they are under the banner of some other organization that is so far out in left field. Don't remember all the details, I just know I ain't gonna be supportin' them folks...
