Variety reports:
Lionsgate has picked up worldwide distribution rights to Atlas Shrugged from Howard and Karen Baldwin (Ray), who will produce with John Aglialoro.
As for stars, book provides an ideal role for an actress in lead character Dagny Taggart, so its not a stretch to assume Rand enthusiast Angelina Jolies name has been brought up. Brad Pitt, also a fan, is rumored to be among the names suggested for lead male character John Galt.

I sure hope Whoopi Goldberg isn't in it.
Can't wait to see how they trash it. Jolie a Rand enthusiast? Right.
Also, to show the whole book on film I would estimate that the film would have to run 15 hours. What would one edit that down to? 10 hours? 12 hours?
Maybe it can be shown in parts on cable tv.
Angelina Jolie? I'd much prefer Gillian Anderson in the role. Or Diane Kruger.
I just can't see Jolie in that role.
Ping
Angelina Jolie as Dagny Taggart? That's like casting Keanu Reeves as Jesus. (Not that they didn't quasi-try that in Constantine.)
In any case, I hope they don't make a mess of it. A box-office success could introduce a whole lot of people who've never been exposed to anything but CNN "truthiness" and mushy-headed liberal utopianism to the ultimate result and goal of that kind of thinking. It'd be nice if some of those people could walk out of a movie theater with some new insight into such matters.
Hard to believe she is an Ayn Rand fan. I would prefer Ashely Judd as Dagny.
But who would you cast Morgan Freeman as? Morgan has to be in any movie Ashley is - I think it's in her contract. =p
Hmmmmmm. Let's see. Maybe he could play Wesley Mouch. No, that won't do. Morgan Freeman always plays the good guy so it would have to be Ken Danagger. Perfect.
Thanks. Fans get excited whenever theres news of this film, but I suspect itll create a lot more misunderstanding than understanding of Objectivism.
$35 millions probably a low budget film these days. I think most hits spend more than that on promotion. And unless the film suppresses the moral-capitalist themes and cherry picks anti-religions insinuations from the 1200 page book to build the plot-line, theyll get little free publicity.
That said, if it gets the Objectivist nerds away from their books and outsider for some fresh air and excitement, Im for it.
Hey now...some of them spend at least some of their time on FreeRepublic.
I'll go watch the movie. I can't read any book that doesn't come without a lot of pictures.
Understood. Every few pages, I had to flip over and look at the book cover to keep from taking a nap.
