The website above has a numerically objective tracking of casualties.
The rate of US military casualties in Iraq has plummetted this month. More than halfway through March, the number of deaths is far fewer than 1/2 of February's total and this is reflected by the daily average. Also, an examination of the past 6 months shows a steady decline. The trend is not a single month.

Tomorrow's Washington Post Headline: Lower casualties prove Pentagon was slow protect soldiers
The headline may not be tomorrow, but eventually some contrarian in journalism trying to carve out a niche will have to cover this.
This is very good news. May it continue dropping and may the casualty rate of our enemies climb!
Don't tell this to George Clooney.
Seriously, this is compelling stuff. Sheer numbers can seldom be ignored. Spin attempts about deaths ("Yeah, only its the civilians who are dying now") will not fly. Casualties plummetting and an Iraqi government in place looks one hell of a lot like a spectacular Bush victory as the 2006 election day approaches.
This has been obvious to me for months - ever since the media suddenly stopped talking about casualties.
Freeper Southack has been following this trend for the past few months...he thinks Zarqawi has fled Iraq.
This type of thing should not be published and editorialized while troops are in harm's way.
Zaraqawi has fled and Osama is dead. >br? What will my son do now?
Okay, so I screwed up the formating. That post should have been a nice couplet.
I understand your take, but guys are always in harms way, in wartime or peace. This data is a strategic fact and defines victory.

Exactly and don't hold your breath for the Bush WH to get out there and inform the American People of the truth. Their communivations Dept. has been either AWOL or ineffective for years now. It's a shame.

There have been valleys in casualty reports before, always followed by higher peaks. March has been a good month, but I'm not going to pop open the champagne just yet. That said, I'm cautiously optimistic and glad that fewer of our boys have died.
That said, I do think that we will see casualty figures go down this year if for no other reason than that troop numbers will decrease from 140,000 down to around 100,000.

This has happened before (February a couple of years ago for instance) and can be attributed to a variety of things.

No. February 2004 was a single month. Look closely at the sequence from October 2005, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, and now March. This is not a February 2004 down spike. This is a trend.
The Iraq War seemed the right thing to do when it was begun, but I really question the WH reaction to things once the Iraqi Hussein Regime fell - they seemed shocked at the unrest that followed and I think they also underestimated the forces in the Middle East that will not allow Iraq to be an American Success Story no matter what. There is no exit strategy because, until Iran, Syria, and Palestine are cowed, there will be no exiting the region. We started this foray into the area, now we either finish the job, or we will be ultimately defeated. Only with the will of the American people firmly behind our CIC and our boys and girls in uniform can we prevail. That support is falling off - and is doing so by design of those who want to see their own visions of revolution become reality.
Bush's fault!!
most likely due to Iraqis doing the dirty work.
Is there an Iraqi military casualty rate?
