Exhibitor Relations Co. reports that over Dec. 10-11 weekend, the film brought in the highest per-screen average for any film release in 2005. "Brokeback Mountain" has also landed awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Associations and the New York Film Critics Circle.
Plans are now in the works to do a gay/bestiality version of the “Lone Ranger.”
Pinky Sfinktir, press secretary for the Screen Actors’ Guild, called the move a “no-brainer.” “If movie-goers turn out to see two no-name cowboys go at it, imagine the impact when icons like the Lone Ranger and Tonto hit the sack together,” said Sfinktir.
The bestiality angle is motivated by two goals, says Sfinktir. “On the one hand, there is the creative desire to push the envelope,” Sfinktir said. “The gay thing has been pretty much mainstreamed for the American viewing audiences. We need to take it to the next level.”
“On the other hand, the famous ‘hi-yo Silver’ catch-phrase is a natural marketing hook for promoting the film,” said Sfinktir.
The plotline starts out with the Lone Ranger’s special relationship with Silver. One evening, Tonto dons the rear half of a horse costume and seduces a drunken Lone Ranger. Eventually, a passionate three-way relationship is established. When not engaged in carnal interactions, the heroes track down and arrest an outlaw gang that has perpetrated a series of hate-crimes against a gay “Dude Ranch.”
Other homofied stories in the mill include action-adventure “Batman & Robin (the Boy Wonder),” historical epic “Robinhood & His Very Merry Men,” and a musical-comedy “Man of la Macho.”

Hollywood yearly profits are already in the toilet, and if producers thinks that queer movies will fill empty seats across the country they're living in a bubble.
Homo movies may make short term profits - until the novelty wears off. Then what?
There are men here posting on Free Republic who went to see this movie and defended their actions. If watching two queer men is of interest to them and they are willing to spend their money supporting this type of film, what does that say about these people? Do some males at FR really find male with male sex appealing?
Hell, I hope they concentrate on sodomite films. The end of Hollywood will be quicker and more satisfying.
Sure don't see a lot of the males here defending going to see this film as on some previous threads about this movie. I'm waiting for a male to tell me what his reasoning was about going to see this movie. Was he thrilled to see two men in love with each other? Was it a latent interest in seeing two men have sex with each other? What else could it be?
If a guy goes to see this movie because he wants to see it, he's gay.If a guy goes to see this movie because his girlfriend wants to see it, he's too gay to have a girlfriend.

I haven't seen this film and don't have an opinion other my normal feelings of preferring to avoid looking at naked men..
but I also find it unreasonable when people criticize movies of books that they have not seen or read.
It's the revenue divided by the number of screens. The reason the average is high is that the number of screens has been limited to large cities with large "gay" male populations. The people who want to see this movie have to go to one of the few theaters in the country showing it. That's why revenue per screen is high. Of course by showing on a few screens to packed houses, the distributors do save money on making additional prints so there is lower cost associated with that revenue. I've noticed that while promos of the homo movie were played in my home town prior to a feature film, no theater in town has booked the movie. I'm guessing they were trying to reach potential viewers who would then see it in another city.
Define deviancy down another level and start over, of course.

Well, Hollyweird is full of gays so it makes sense that they'd think this is a good idea.
Let's face it: Randolph Scott was gay, and he was one of the most famous movie cowboys ever.
And no, I haven't seen the movie nor do I plan to.
I'd have to say that anyone who knowingly goes to a movie to watch a pair of gay cowboys (or gay anybody) definitely has some unresolved issues.

That is EXACLY what they are doing. This thing has only opened to about 300 theaters and BTW the per-screen average is dropping PRECIPITOUSLY (see http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/2005/BRKMT.php).
It was a cheap enough movie that it might break even (which is really a loss, since you have to have receipts about 3X a movie's cost just to break even) since a small number of ultra-liberals (and of course gays) will watch it, but that will be it.
If "success" = "getting nominated for awards" then Bareback Mountain might score. If "success" = "making money" it will be a dismal failure.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Exhibitor Relations. Final figures will be released Tuesday.
