This is a new forum for discussing pre-Civil War Texas history and a place to share news and announcements of events commemorating early Texas history. Ask question, contribute answers, exchange viewpoints. Write articles, book reviews or pen an old fashioned book report.
TEXIAN. A word (in Spanish Tejano) describing both male and female citizens or the culture of the former province of Tejas, New Spain, the Texas section of the state of Coahuila y Tejas, Republic of Mexico, and the subsequent Republic of Texas. Government officials including Miguel Ramos Arispe, author of the Mexican Constitution of 1824, referred to the residents of Texas as Tejanos. President of the Texas Republic, Mirabeau B. Lamar, used the term Texian to promote national pride. The current term Texan eventually replaced both terms after annexation. The TEXIAN WEB is a consortium of web sites dedicated to presentation of high quality material concerning pre-Civil War Texas History on the internet.
Texian Consortium Websites include:
The Alamo
Alamo de Parras
Descendants of Mexican War Veterans
The French Legation Museum
Index to Military Rolls of The Republic of Texas, 1835-1845
Robertson's Colony in Texas
Sons of Dewitt Colony Texas
Texas Military Forces Museum
The Texas Navies
The Texian Legacy Association, Inc.

I never knew Texas had a Navy, it was not in any of my Texas History lessons.
I first heard of the Texas Navy in Clive Cussler's "The Sea Hunters".

Very happy here in the DFW Area that the phrase 'Texassians' never stuck.
