Emily, we may not get to communicate again before you ship out.
I can not tell you how proud I am of you and how much I wish it was me rather than you that was carrying this burden for our Nation.
I am too old and we have no males in the family chain ready or willing to step up to the plate to defend our nation.
Fortunately we have you in the Army and Anna in the Army Reserves, My two Army Niece’s, who have filled the need from both sides of my family.
You may not know the history of this Nation or our families and the building of this great nation. You did not join with the vision of going off to war in a foreign land. None of us could have ever imagined that our first born daughter from the Pettigrew family would one day be defending our Nation. However, fate and circumstance have placed you here. This nation is the greatest Nation on the Planet. The USA is made up of immigrants from every other nation on the planet because we formed a new County based on Individual Liberty and Freedom. We threw off the old ways of Europe where they had Kings born with the right of title and Individuals were subjects of the King. In the USA every citizen is born with unalienable rights from God as outlined in our Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” We have a limited government under the Constitution that derives its powers from You the Citizen. You give limited power to the states who then give power to the Federal Government. The remaining rights are reserved to the States and the Citizens there in. That is you.
Another Unique feature of the USA is our history of the Citizen Soldier. In our revolution from England common citizens, just like you, joined the military under George Washington to fight in order to secure our freedom from despotism. Many have come forward over the years; in WW2 my dad flew 47 B17 bombing missions out of England against the Nazi’s. The USA has defended the world against the NAZI’s, Communist and now the Islamic Jihadist. We are the worlds super power because we stand up for what is right in the world, Equality, Freedom, Liberty, Democracy and the rights of the individual. We do not do this because of Imperialism, Greed, Lust for Power, or any other bad ideas. We do this because only the USA has the guts to sand up to Evil and protect the world. Most of the other countries in the world are run by Socialist, Communist, Despots and various self centered greedy jerks who are in power for their own personal wealth, power and self aggrandizement.
The USA was made up of malcontents, stubborn individualist, the non elites, the common poor folk from all of Europe who risked everything to come to a new land in leaky wooden boats and brave wild Indians and weather to form a new land. Then the malcontents and stubborn bull headed who were not content with the original 13 colonies came West and formed Texas.
Texans are unique; we are the individualist born of the malcontents from the East coast born of malcontents from Europe.
We fought to the death in the Alamo and formed a new Country the Republic of Texas that later became a state of the Union of the United States of America. This is who you are Emily a native Texan daughter of this stock of bull headed, individualist frontier spirit can do people. This is your place in history, you have a long line of Texans and Americans standing behind you to support you and fill you with the power of Gods love and the Greatest Nation on Earth. What you are doing is the Righteous, Moral and the correct path for our Nation.
We are fighting an evil that is every bit as bad as the NAZI movement in WW2. It is called the Islamic Jihad, a radical form of the Muslim religion that formed in Saudi Arabia under the Wahhabist movement. They attacked the Nation on 9-11-01, but that was not the first time. They attacked the Navy ship the Cole, they blew up 3 of our embassies in Africa and the World Trade center in 1995.
They blew up the subways in London, the trains in Spain, and they are attacking non Muslims in America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Philippines and Malaysia. This is a world wide war of Islamic Jihad against all non Muslims. We are doing the right thing by taking the front line war from NYC to the Middle East in their back yard. You can not negotiate, talk or compromise with these terrorist. They slit the throats of people, cut off their heads and post the videos on Internet for fun. They base their actions on a Religious Teaching as evil as the NAZI movement. Islamic Terrorism is not due to poor treatment from the west or economics, poverty or capitalism. It is a Religious Movement that believes that only their way of life should be allowed. They want to take over the earth and kill all Jews, Christians or any other religion not their way. There is only one way to deal with them, kill them.
What we are doing is defeating the Islamic Jihad by liberating the other Muslims from this despotism. We will create a Democracy in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Most people are good people and just want to live free and be left alone. We will destroy the Islamic Jihad movement when more Muslims value Democracy and Capitalism and love their children more than they love killing infidels.
When the Tree of Democracy blooms in the Middle East and the Women are freed to vote and have rights the same as men, when they enjoy the fruits of freedom it will forever replace the hate of Wahhabism. This is the same way we converted Germany and Japan and now Russia into Democracies. When you are dealing with Evil sometimes the only answer is War and this is the case.
Pay no attention to the Socialist, Liars and Sunshine Patriots in the Mainstream Media and the Democrat Leadership who continually attack President Bush and our Military saying we need to pull out of the war now. They are trying to cause the loss of the war solely so the Democrat Party can re-gain power positions the same way they lost the war in Vietnam. The Military won every major battle in Vietnam it was the Press and whiners in the Democrat party that eventually forced the USA to abandon the South Vietnamese and loose the war. All these self centered people care about is politics and their personal power, not what is best for the World or the USA and the world wide war on Islamic Jihad.
We are all proud of you and the majority of Americans are behind you and what our country is doing.

A Soldier’s Prayer
Lord Jesus, Mighty Warrior and Prince of Peace, all glory and power is yours. I offer myself and my military career for the welfare of our nation and for your glory.
You said "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord"; make us mindful of our nation's heritage and of who we are. You said "Be strong and of good courage", this is my prayer. You said "A king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength"; be my protection and my strength. While I defend the nation, may all of Heaven safeguard my family back home.
Almighty God, when you will to safely return me home, help me to see in each member of my family all that I am willing to fight for- life, liberty, freedom and justice. Give me wisdom to share what experiences would lead my sons to Christ-like valor, my daughters to Christian compassion. When Mary witnessed you falling wounded to the ground, she reaffirmed her trust in God her savior. Fill my spouse with surety in your divine plan for me, our family and our nation. You called me to be a soldier. March along side me. Jesus, I place my trust in you.
