Washington, DCThe League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) expressed today its frustration over President Bushs nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. to the U.S. Supreme Court. This is the third opportunity Bush has missed to diversify the court by not naming a Hispanic to the seat. It is clear to LULAC officials that Bush has misled the Hispanic community by not keeping his promise of being a Hispanic-friendly president in the courts.
The actions of the Bush Administration unequivocally demonstrate a president with only a political interest in the Hispanic community. During the presidents first term, the numbers of Hispanic appointments rose to 10%. Since then, the numbers have waned. Furthermore, Bush has not moved forward with a comprehensive immigration reform plan and has neglected the opportunity to end the 216-year shut out of Latinos on the Supreme Court a major let down to the Hispanic community.
LULAC will closely research Samuel A. Alitos record and encourage a thorough and vigorous confirmation process. To educate the Latino community, LULAC will develop a Diversity Score Card on Judicial Appointments that will examine Bushs commitment to diversity.

He could nominate either of those types and IT WOULDN'T COUNT. Their ethnicity disappears if they're conservative. I'm sure you've figured that out by now.
last thing Bush needs is light on the mexican border.. thats why there IS NONE...
and IF some public attention(media) wanders towards toward the border.. the administration will do "something" "anything" to get off.. The mexican insurgency IS ON PURPOSE..
Pray for W and Our Troops
America made a big mistake when it started rewarding people for their ethnicity, especially if they were a minority. If it continues down this path the country will lose its identity and become the boiling pot instead of the melting pot.
Well, all is not lost. If you take a look at the ages of remaining members of the Supremes, it's Ginsburg - 72, Souter - 66, Thomas - 57, Breyer - 67, Scalia - 69, Stevens - 85, Kennedy - 69. So, here we have Judge Stevens, probably the most liberal judge on the court at 85 years; obviously there's a strong (dare I say good?) chance that Bush will have the opportunity to fill his position within the next three years. However, I am still pulling for the first black woman judge - that would be Judge Janice Rogers Brown, yes it would, let's rumble!!!
Excuse me everyone, a minute, gotta find my keys to start the WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMBULANCE!
You are correct. But isnt't beautiful, that on our side, if nothing else, we try to look at the quality of the person rather than the color of their skin? - I personally forget about race when I am looking at the talented person regardless of their color (Asian, Hispanic, Black or any other minority), and if coservative..Ahh.. even better :)

I agree! I call upon Justice Stevens to retire immediately so that this oversight can be corrected. Justice Stevens is a committed proponent of affirmative action and racial quotas, so I'm certain he'd want to be replaced by someone who adds diversity to the Court. His immediate resignation would allow President Bush to appoint Miguel Estrada or Judge Garza to the highest court in the land. Since Justice Stevens in 85, he's surely ready to retire and enjoy his golden years, and what better way to do so than opening up a spot for Estrada or Garza. C'mon Stevens, step down now!
bitch-and-moan
the only Identity Politics that belong in America is American Identity. No others need apply.
The Court is not a diversity institution. It is meant to adhere to rule of law. Period.
This stated, if they wanted a Hispanic on the Court they should have helped us confirm Estrada to the Appellate Court.
Bush has no legally handicapped justices on the supreme court.
Let's see real minorities if we're gonna whine like a 4 year old in a toy store.
They would complain about whatever ethnic background the nominee did not have.
"He also missed the opportunity to nominate an Asian. Or a Serbian. Or a Methodist. Or a deaf person. Lots of opportunities missed, all because of the fact that he was pressured by the base to pick the most highly qualified candidate."
and a Native American,or someone in a wheel chair, or a blind person, or an openly gay judge or a really big fat person......
don't forget gay and with one or two abortions... experience on resume you know
in that case, Transexuals and Turrets syndrom sufferers are under-represented as well.
Make that a lesbian who has performed abortions and she'd be unstoppable for confirmation to SCTOUS.
LA RAZA, everything for the race nothing for those not of the race.
That is LaRAZA's byline
