I just finished reading another amazing novel by Dean Koontz, "Cold Fire".
The afterword ... is hilarious:
"Then, as is often the case when life is good, someone said, 'Hey, let's make a movie!' and life got strange, dark, and scary.
"By this I do not mean to imply - although I can't stop you from inferring - that a lot of movie-industry executives are as brainless, voracious, and destructive as the flesh-eating bacteria ... I've met smart, fair, creative executives over the years...although I've noticed their kind either eventually get fired," (NOTE TO SELF: KELLY GOODE!!!) ...
He goes on to say that after HE HIMSELF wrote the script for the movie based on his book, movie execs kept pressuring him to change it in the same stupid way (adding space aliens) over and over again. He continually declined, knowing, as did his readers, that adding aliens would RUIN THE WHOLE POINT OF THE FREAKING BOOK, and the dumbasses refused to make the movie WITHOUT space aliens. This is after Dean had written three No. 1 bestselling novels; he has now sold 300 million books. ...
Imagine sitting across from Regis Philbin, trying to discuss the political history of China. That's what it's like being a novelist in Hollywood meetings. I mean, now I know of TWO bestselling authors, Dean Koontz and Robert Crais, who REFUSE to sit down with movie and TV people because they know these people have the intellectual sophistication of guppies.
Dean's description of pitch meetings left me rolling on the floor. Been there, done that:
"A series of pitch meetings were arranged with independent producers and stupido executives, and we began making the rounds. ..."
Wow.
It's nice to know I'm not alone in the world. ... How stupid are they, really?

Who the hell is this woman? She sounds like a stalker.
Not only is Dean Koontz one of my favorite writers, he's a good guy- I dropped him a "as long as you keep writin' 'em, I'll keep buyin' 'em" note circa 1987-- and he sent me a short, hand-written reply.
He may be a good guy, but that doesn't mean this leftist idiot who sees racism under every rock (even though she is white) should rave like an lunatic.
