WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Today, President George W. Bush has nominated White House Counsel Harriet Miers to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by retiring Sandra Day O'Connor.
While many pro-life groups were frustrated with the lack of information about the abortion stand of Bush's first Supreme Court nominee, John Roberts, even less is known about Harriet Miers. Some have placed her in the same category as pro-abortion administration officials Condoleezza Rice and Karen Hughes.
"We must reject the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court of the United States," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
"President Bush promised that he would appoint strong constitutional constructionist to the Supreme Court in the mold of Thomas and Scalia, but Miers is no Thomas or Scalia," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We must be given a nominee that will restore the protections of personhood to the pre-born. If your head was about to be crushed, would you want to trust you life to someone who will not state their position on your murder?"
"Bush was given one mandate by the American people in the last election and that was to reform the Supreme Court. Reform does not come in a brown paper bag," said Newman.
No surprise there.
Yep.
Kathryn Jean Lopez was absolutely correct in her (tentative) assessment yesterday.
Their opposition is worthless, but that doesn't make Harriet Miers any more qualified for this position than she was prior to their condemnation.
There are enough conservatives-both ordinary, idealistic Americans and members of the commentariet and legal community-who have qualms to cast doubt in the minds of even the most fervent Bush advocate.
As a personal view, yes. What evidence is there that that would translate into judicial action on the issue?
Operation Rescue does more work to save humans from death by abortion then anyone in this chat room. They are on the front lines while you folks sit in your easy chairs playing armchair quarterbacks.
If you want to do something about abortion instead of just talk about how bad it is then join us at http://www.marchtogether.com.
Don't complain about OR, complain about the 4,000 human beings who won't live through the day because an abortion "doctor" will take their lives from them.

On one hand they decry judcial activism...and on the other hand, they DEMAND judicial activism.
You are SOOOO VERY VERY right!
They're itching for a fight and it's time someone dumped a little cold water on them.
I never implied they didn't, I said they hadn't done their homework. From all indications of Miers position on abortion , that is indeed the case.
All must be done according to law, and not a single mind has ever been changed by hurling a dead fetus at someone. Rescue has set back the pro-life cause by years, and we are just now recovering.
My friend, I cannot disagree with you more.
I await examples from scripture.
I'm not an expert on Scripture but I do believe when we see children being killed we have an obligation to try to save them.
If you saw a child drowning in a river, would you rely on Scripture for guidance or just try to save him?
But, to answer your question, did you know that a tower collapsed in a town where Jesus taught and He did nothing to stop it? Or that he did not heal every sick person in a town? There was a method to Jesus's operations, guided by scripture, and it certainly would not have involved carrying a jar with a fetus in it.
I often wonder what He would do if He was on the earth today.
