WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Today, President George W. Bush has nominated White House Counsel Harriet Miers to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by retiring Sandra Day O'Connor.
While many pro-life groups were frustrated with the lack of information about the abortion stand of Bush's first Supreme Court nominee, John Roberts, even less is known about Harriet Miers. Some have placed her in the same category as pro-abortion administration officials Condoleezza Rice and Karen Hughes.
"We must reject the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court of the United States," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
"President Bush promised that he would appoint strong constitutional constructionist to the Supreme Court in the mold of Thomas and Scalia, but Miers is no Thomas or Scalia," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We must be given a nominee that will restore the protections of personhood to the pre-born. If your head was about to be crushed, would you want to trust you life to someone who will not state their position on your murder?"
"Bush was given one mandate by the American people in the last election and that was to reform the Supreme Court. Reform does not come in a brown paper bag," said Newman.
Yes...I saw a post or blog somewhere that said she must be the best Court choice in "150 years" because both the Right and the Left hate her.

Did anyone hear Ann Coulter on Hannity & Colmes? She said "I think Bush hates conservatives" followed by "I think he just wants to go back to Crawford". Those statements were completely out of line IMHO.
You know, it's scary how many of these know-it-all special interest groups (on all political sides) don't bother to read/research the latest information available.
Knee-jerk. Wonder if they bothered to call her pastor or church. Don't they have staffs who are supposed to at least be able to use Google?
I'm also reminded of what Dr. Dobson told Brit yesterday, something to the effect of "religion aside, Harriet Miers has all the qualities of a judge, even if she wasn't one, because she made a pronouncement to interpret the rule of law, abide by the Constitution, and if she is nominated she will respect the position and not legislate from the bench". Dr. Dobson said basically from that alone, he's comfortable with the pick, unless something horrible comes up between now and her confirmation hearing.
"Operation Rescue aginst, ACLJ for, it's a wash!"
I think ACLJ carries more weight since they are a conservative legal foundation.
Nope, I didn't see her on H&C, but judging from what you've said she said, she basically picked up where she left off of from her appearance on the Hannity radio show.
Yep. They are the counterbalance of the ACLU (as I like to call them "The American Criminal Lawyers Union").
Operation Rescue was founded by Randall Terry, who may still be active with the organization. And anyone familiar with him knows that Terry has credibility problems of his own.
I'm assuming it's he same organization once led by Joseph Scheidler in Chicago?
Miers needs to be supported.

She also said this is payback for raising a fuss about Gonzalez. She said he just picked another crony with less qualifications.
Operation Rescue probably doesn't care whether Miers is pro life, since what matters is whether Miers is anti-Roe, and it's not the same thing..
Yes, like rethinking his choice.
Just a hunch here...if Miers gets nominated for SC and turns out to be ultra-conservative in her judicial decisions, then maybe the conservatives in the USA will see the benefit of having born-again christian evangelicals on the court. Hang on...the ride is going to get bumpier.
Oh well this will just encourage the Dems to vote for her. Which is good. I think appointing her is a brilliant move by Bush. I trust him on this. Although I have a lot of respect for George Will...on this one I think he's wrong. She's gonna work out just fine.
Yea, maybe just a tad
You got it. Operation Rescue jumped ship before checking to see if the ship was sinking.
Some folks are really over-reacting
