In GA we had a statewide gas shortage/panic after Katrina.
It was really a media driven event but none the less the people took to any gas station they could find and bought gas at prices topping $6 per gallon. Most gas stations were dry of any gas.
The Governor is trying to play offense but I think this creates more of a "what does he know" then a calming effect.
Now we all in Georgia got to take our kids out and entertain them on Monday & Tuesday. I'd save more gas with my kids in school!

I don't think my 9 and 5 yr old are going to be joyriding, and my a/c is already on, albeit a little warmer during the day, won't change that, they're kids, they'll live.

I think it's just to save energy, too. Hubby's company modified work schedules 2 weeks ago. Half the fleet is on the road Mon-Thurs, other half Tues-Fri to conserve fuel and expenses, perhaps this is good, maybe folks won't panic to get gas this time around.

Energy comes from natural gas too. Commie News Net is just trying to portray this in a bad light.
There will be some natural gas supply issues, post Rita.

Note to self: Fill tank on the way home tonight. And THAT is the exact reaction a lot of people are going to have. It is going to cause another gas panic, higher prices, long lines, more threats against gouging, and finally a shortage. This is very stupid on Sonny's part. Whoever suggested the idea to him should be fired.

Before and after Katrina the pipelines were shut down. I know that the refineries, even in NM have stopped pumping.

To Wolf and CNN, the last six years have been a very disturbing development.

Considering GA had gas prices over $6 per gallon after Katrina, I'd say the governor did the right thing.
Neverthe less I can see people rushing out to top off their tanks causing all kinds of immediate shortages.

I remember getting snow days in Nebraska as a kid. Great day for driving to town, hunting, or just goofing off. Of course in -30F wind chill and white out conditions you don't see many pheasants.

Sounds like he is worried about what happened last time (panic buying) so he is trying to stop it before it can begin.

IF true than Perdue is a nutbag. Rita is rapidly losing steam and gas prices will only spike higher if, like after Katrina, stupid consumers rush out to fill their tanks for no reason. Blitzer yelling "$5 gas" all week. How absurd. Panic is our worst enemy.

The refineries around Houston are
already down, folks. They shut down days ago and evacuated their personnel like everyone else. Even if the storm does
no damage, there will be no gas coming out of this area which handles approx 30% of the nation's supply for several days, at least.
That's why Perdue wants to conserve gas.

I wonder what he thinks when schools are closed for a week due to a Blizzard??
The inability to force feed kids liberal propaganda for a week for any reason is
A VERY DISTURBING DEVELOPMENT.

It's a gas shortage issue.
