From the linked article:
Michelle Mulkey, a spokewoman for Sheehan, who lives in Vacaville, Calif., said Sheehan hoped to be back in Texas within 24 to 48 hours. Mulkey said Sheehan's mother, Shirley Miller, was in a hospital emergency room and Sheehan didn't yet know how serious her condition was.
Something just doesn't ring true about this paragraph.
It's too convenient. Her mom could be in and out of emergency in hours, depending on the situation of course, and could be back home before Ms. Sheehan even arrives. Yes, mom could need post-visit help, but how can Ms. Sheehan "hope" to be back with 24-28 hours? Wouldn't "I don't know" be more on point? It's odd, even in the era of medical privacy, that she doesn't know her mom's condition.
My theories:
- Mom's not ill, or isn't ill enough to justify a departure by Ms. Sheehan. It would be a real coup if someone could check and see where her mom is and has been.
- Ms. Sheehan's not returning to Crawford at all before Bush returns to Washington.
- This is happening because the Move America Forward (MAF) effort was on the verge of humiliating the Ms. Sheehan and her cohort.
- With Cindy gone, the MAFs can be ignored by the press.
- Even if she's really returning, she may return after August 27 to conveniently avoid a confrontation with and/or comparison to the MAFs.
Bottom line: She's leaving now to avoid a huge embarrassment in a week.
The reason to leave also popped up just as the national backlash was growing. How convenient.
If they do then they will have greatly underestimated FReepers!
It occurred to me. Of course, it's entirely possible her mother is ill, as well.
Or, her mother could be in the ICU for a month, like my mother was.
Speculating about strokes is tricky. I wouldn't suggest it.
By the way, this all happened yesterday? Cindy's already home. It ain't that far to California from Texas.
this whole thing stinks to high heaven! I don't believe for one second Sheehan's mom has a stroke. I think she had major anxiety due to what her daughter has been doing and at an older women's age it can make you feel like your having a heart attack or stroke. I think Sheehan needed an excuse to get out of Crawford. Whether she is coming back or not I do not know.
This later article states her mom is in ICU, according to a Sheehan spokesman:

Crow is thawing, but it would be nice to have confirmation from other than "a Sheehan spokeman" about her mother's condition. It could be that they're worried about the speculation too.
And, I believe this line of inquiry is appropriate. She made herself a public figure, which means she's invited the scrutiny.
What became apparent to the public is that children make their own decisions in many cases ones their parents disagree with. Choice of careers, companions, mates, lifestyles etc. Casey's
decision to reenlist and volunteer for the rescue mission is a sign of character and true courage. A patriot who is deceased once said "Courage is going forward with the Mission and not letting on who scared you are." Colonel David H. Hackworth.
This Camp Casey was all about Cindy not Casey he was barely mentioned in her diatribe. As to the Halliburton thing funny the Media and left did not care when they supplied the US military under President Clinton. But I forget he was a Democrat. And we were not threatened by the Serbs.
I have sympathy for the loss the Sheehan family has sufferred impugning Casey's actions and honor is not a decent way to mourn his death. For all the families who have laid at the altar of freedom the life of a family member. I am eternally grateful for your loved one's sacrifice. As long as Patriots are willing to step forward and defend our way of life we will remain free. We must have the resolve to see this through to the end.
Cindy's only way out of this mess she's created is
...an extended stay in a hospital for "exhaustion."
If Cindy's mother is sick, Cindy may learn a lesson.
She didn't seem to understand, before her mother's illness, that the Iraq campaign did not have to go perfectly in order to be a worthwhile campaign.
She might learn that campaigns can have setbacks, as they get interrupted by sickness, accidents and death.
I'll use one of Cindy's favorite words in an explanatory phrase, so Cindy can understand --"Cr@p happens."
PCU cares for those who are ready to begin the transition of moving from the ICU/CCU to a general nursing care unit as well as other types of patients who may need closer monitoring.
According to the article accessed by your link
Ms. Sheehan's mother was in the intensive care unit but could be moved to a room after doctors meet Friday, said Michael Khoo, a Sheehan spokesman at the Crawford camp. He said Ms. Sheehan's mother was stabilized. If doctors are discussing whether to move the "stabilized" Shirley Miller to a regular room soon, I doubt, barring setbacks, that she'll remain in the ICU for a long time. If Mrs. Miller really stays in the ICU for an extended time, Cindy better stay close to the hospital.
I'm assuming that Mrs. Miller is not in a tiny hospital.
Disclaimer: I have no medical background.
Cindy's jumped the shark.
You would think that if the mother of a (MSM-annointed) national hero were ill, there would be non-stop coverage of her condition.
So they got a hospital to admit her mother for no medical reason, huh?
There's something not right about that speculation, sorry.

Shirley Miller, 74, suffered a stroke Thursday and is recovering at Tri-City Regional Medical Center, a small two-story hospital located on Pioneer Boulevard just north of Carson Street.Maybe Cindy can catch site of Move America Forward's "You Don't Speak For Me, Cindy!" Caravan while it's in the LA area.
We already know where Cindy's mother is - whether it was all a ruse, I have no idea:
