I am approaching this subject from a unique perspective, as someone who had never seen a single Star Wars film until about 3-4 weeks ago. In the past month, I have seen all 6 episodes, and I gotta tell ya
the newer ones are better......

Before I am called treasonous, check the whole post. I make some arguments about characterization and plotlines. What do you guys think?

Your very first part is even flawed, Lucas didn't direct all 6.

Okay, you are clearly insane. Where to begin?
First, I don't believe that Lucas directed all six movies. If I am wrong, someone correct me. I think that TESB (at least) was directed by someone else. That's my favorite, BTW.
I cannot imagine why anyone would think that any SW movie (including the first series) could be better than TESB. (Unless you choose Episode IV. I can understand that, even though I do not agree.)
The new movies are glorified video games. As a matter of fact, I am quite sure that the whole "factory" scene in Episode II was included ONLY because of the video game.
The new series sucks.

And another thing. I read recently that the Ewoks in ROTJ were originally supposed to be Wookiees. Wookiees, people!
Let's see ... Wookiees or Ewoks ... Wookies or Ewoks ...
Lucas chose Ewoks. 'Nuff said.

See #3, TESB was directed by Irvin Kershner
SEE HERE. I agree with you on the rest of your post. There is no connection to any of the characters in the newer 3 films. In the first 3 I remember the anxiousness I felt waiting to see what happened next. In these 3 there is no connection.

Oh, I know. My man laughs at me (and gets very frustrated with me) because I hate everybody in the new series - the "good" guys and the bad guys.
Give me the old-school Star Wars any day. (Oh, by the way, DIE, ANAKIN, DIE!!!)

When the first film hit theaters in 1977 it was vastly superior to anything out there in terms of special effects. It was a mind blower!
The later films are filled with cumputer generated distractions and characters ie..Jar-Jar Stinks. They left me checking my watch.

certainly understandable... but its not like this took me too long to write. If you look at the beginning statement, I had never even seen any of these until a couple weeks ago.

Too much animatronics and Lucas TOTAL CONTROL over episodes 1-3 have made for disappointing results (other than ROTS, which was a pleasent surprise). Here are my favorites, in order:
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope.
3. Revenge of the Sith.
4. Attack of the Clones.
5. Return of the Jedi.
6. The Phantom Menace.

I do understand. If Empire Strikes Back had never been made, I might even think that Episode IV was the best. science. fiction. movie. ever. However, I just believe that "Empire" is a better movie all-around.
(My man agrees with you.)

I hear what you're saying about the imagery and the video games..... but the imagery and fight sequences aren't even in my reasoning. I'm stricly speaking of the plotlines as more complex and the characters as more profound.
TESB is def. the best of the earlier ones, but 3 has a full character arc for Annikan.... that is far more interesting than anything having to do Luke or Han.

TESB is my favorite too. I believe it was the high point of the series and was directed by Irwin Kirshcner (I think), definitely not Lucas. The newer two, Phanton Menace and Attack of the Clones, were boring, with terrible dialogue and leaden acting. Taking the kids to see the latest this evening but I don't have high expectations.

You're still not understanding. I HATE Anakin. I HATE Padme. I REALLY HATE Jar-Jar. I HATE "young" Yoda. I HATE young Obi-Wan. I hate the whole thing. Hate.
Hate, hate, hate.
I understood and cared about the characters in the old three. There didn't have to be any painful exposition. I loved them anyway. I hate everybody in the new three - I don't care how their characters develop, because I hate them.
(Oh, yeah. DIE, ANAKIN!)
