Coalition Asks Gov. Bush Priorities: Governorship or Terri's Life?

PINELLAS PARK, Fla., March 29 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Paul Schenck, L.H.D., has issued the following statement on behalf of the 11th Hour Coalition to Save Terri Schiavo's Life:
"It is unconscionable that Gov. Bush has not taken executive action to save the life of Terri Schiavo, an innocent woman being brutally murdered in a manner not witnessed publicly since the Nazis in World War II. Frankly, we are baffled by the governor's recent assertion to the Associated Press that, '(he has) not seen any means by which the executive branch can get involved.'
"This is particularly confusing given the contents of a letter sent to the governor by the Thomas More Law Center at his request. In response to Gov. Bush's query of the law center as to whether he had the executive authority to take Terri Schiavo into protective custody, the Thomas More Law Center stated, '...we conclude that you do have that authority. As the Governor of the State of Florida, you are vested with the supreme executive power.' The letter goes on to detail, statute by statute, how and why Gov. Bush can and should take custody of Terri Schiavo. The response concludes, '...you should take immediate custody of Ms. Schiavo, provide for her life support needs, including food and hydration, and medical care, (and) direct the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to conduct a full investigation of the facts and circumstances of this case...'
"Given this compelling information, Gov. Bush's claim seems disingenuous. He is the chief executive officer of the Florida state government, and therefore does not need the permission of the judiciary-especially one so blatantly out of control-or of the legislative branch to protect the innocent life of a citizen. Are we really to believe that the governor can commute the death sentence of a hardened criminal, but cannot stop the dehydration and starvation of a disabled American?
"We all appreciate the work that Gov. Bush has done to this point to help Terri, but this is not a situation when half measures or political maneuvers will suffice. This is literally a matter of life and death, and the governor has the power and authority to defend life.
"In the end, the governor is faced with this question: Would he prefer to maintain his power as governor at the expense of an innocent woman's life, or is he willing to ascend to the highest level of leadership, integrity and courage by saving Terri's life no matter what the personal consequence?"

Not true. The Democrat Congress composed and passed the budget and Nixon signed it as he lacked a line item veto.
GWB has no such excuse for allowing what he does with a clear GOP majority in both Houses of Congress.

GWB, as you say, may well have no real problem with Judge Greer which would explain why he has done veritably nothing to save an innocent American.

You are just making excuses. The facts even show that Bush was readying a state agency to go there under State executive authority.

That goes not just for Jeb but the judge and husband as well. I expect eventually Greer, if there's any conscience there will begin to feel immense guilt for sentencing an innocent woman to death.
Jeb is a coward, and he helped increase the power of the judicial branch even further.
The 'final' solution to social security dollar shortfall?
Gov. Bush has done a lot, and it is in very poor taste to criticize him for not taking everything into his own hands. What's happening to Terri via court order is horrible and tragic, but Jeb is the last one we should be criticizing for it.
A governor or president is every bit as bound by a court order as anyone else.
A moral duty to interfere can be argued. Since all legal means of appeal have been exhausted and rejected, there is no legal basis for Jeb or GW to interfere.
There are excellent reasons to reexamine the laws that allowed this travesty. I believe there are none to legitimately criticize executives who enforced those laws even when they disagreed with them. They should be applauded, not denounced.
Do we or do we not want governors, presidents and judges who follow the law even when they disagree with it?
If not, principled opposition to the writing of law by judges is dead. You have no basis by which to criticize judges for writing laws, only that you personally dislike the results of what they produce.
County LEOs under the direct control of a judge? That alone should be seen as a breach of constitutional authority.

At the very least, Governor Jeb Bush should respond to Michael Schiavo's explicit public invitation, by showing up unannounced with everyone and everything he needs to make a final and sudden decision on whether he should attempt to save Terri's life right now.

what, exactly, would you all have Gov or Pres Bush do? and how would you have him/them do it? under what authority? and, how long would any such action be in effect before it was overturned, returning Terri to exactly where she is today? this does strike me as placing blame and anger in the wrong direction.
That would be a nirvana moment for many here at FR. Or even worse, FLNGmen shooting at Pinellas County LEOs. Waco looks like a piñata party compared to what these halfwits want.
