IN VIRGINIA: DOUBLE JEOPARDY FOR SPEEDING

FreeMarketNews.Com, Jan. 25, 2005 - A bill has been introduced into the Virginia House of Delegates that would place an additional penalty on motorists who have received speeding tickets. The bill, cosponsored by two Republicans, Thomas Rust and David Albo, would add so-called abuser fees.
A driver convicted of exceeding the speed limit by 30 mph in Virginia, would normally pay a fine of $100 with $50 in court costs, and have their license suspended for 90 days. The new plan would levy an additional $750 in fines on the hapless motorist.
Interestingly Albo, in addition to being a legislator, is also a traffic ticket attorney. The National Motorist Association comments on what would seem to be a clear-cut case of self interest, as opposed to public safety, in regard to his efforts. They state:
If this measure passes, it will certainly be a win-win for him. When it comes time for re-election, he can claim that he stood.........Full Article www.FreeMarketNews.com
Yeah that probably wouldn't fly around here. I'm a couple miles from a general aviation airport and a fire station.
What part of VA?
Chesterfield, just south of Richmond.
"Hopefully Virgina will work this out.
I'm with you, but I doubt it.
SHEEEESH...MUD
Whether you are walking or riding or driving, you have to meet certain standards. In many places pedestrians MUST use the sidewalk, if available, else they get ticketed, even in front of their own homes.
The solution to the problem is the elimination of public right of way!
A dump truck driver ploughed his truck into the rear of our car.
He explained that he thought we were going to run the red light.
Obviously the answer is in the restrictions they've placed on Second Amendment rights.
If it were generally the case in CA that you could anticipate that the next guy was armed, or could be, they'd be much more polite.
Virginia could very well live on the revenue to be taken from lawbreaking travelers should the need ever arise.
I'll pass the idea along to my old buddy (and State Senator) Dave Albo for consideration.
if you have a CDL, it doesn't matter...15 mph over the limit and your license can be revoked.
All the cops now are little ninja pointed head drug warriors...they are cry babies and are afraid of their own shadow...they will steal whatever they can from your vehicle and sit around waffle house and brag to each other about what "bad sumbitches" they are.
I hate them all..a young lady that i know had went to the drive thru and caxhed her paycheck..little over $500.00..she was stopped early that evening...when asked if they could search her vehicle, she told them "NO" there was no reason to search her vehicle...they ignored this and went all over her car...they found no drugs but the $500.00 + was gone and the sheriff dept denied any liability due to the impeccable integrity of their officers.
Ouachita parish (monroe & west monroe, La) is the worse place in the whole state of Louisiana, Sheriff Richard Fewell, was himself at one time a little sissy that got his ass kicked daily at school and looks like a beady eyed little mole..
i have great respect for "law Enforcement" but these guys they hire nowadays are really lil nazis with bad haircuts.
30 MPH over the limit in many places is reckless driving and carries a very large fine. It's kinda hard to say, "oops, I didn't notice I was over the limit" when you're 30 over
"Speeding Fines Doubled Along Richmond I-95 Corridor
January 6, 2005
The Virginia Departments of Transportation, Motor Vehicles and State Police announced today that a 13-mile segment of Interstate 95 from Bells Road south of Richmond to Brook Road north of Richmond has been designated a "Highway Safety Corridor." Under a law passed by the Virginia General Assembly in 2003, maximum speeding fines in a Highway Safety Corridor are doubled, from $250 to $500. Minimum fines for Reckless Driving are set at $200 and can reach the maximimum fine of $2,500. Fines for DUI are unaffected and remain at a minimum of $250 and a maximum of $2,500. "
"about 6 months later he gets another bill for an additional 100.00 for the tickets he already paid the fines on"
What was the extra for? Does Mich have a RICO type traffic law?
Here is a good read you should like on the subject.

Before you said that, you should have read item 3 at this link:

when asked if they could search her vehicle, she told them "NO"
That's not a yes or no question. They don't need your permission to search your car, they do need probable cause. A yes or no answer can be probable cause depending on other circumstances. Where I live , no gets the drug dog called in, yes gets you searched. I've given the "you don't need my permission if you have probable cause" answer on 2 occasions and they shrugged it off and let me go on my way
That is ridiculous. I can see large fines for 30+ and such, but 3 fines for 2 minor tickets is theft
