I watched the debates with four friends. One an extreme Kerry supporter. He was appoplectic over Kerry's performance. Kerry's inabilty to look into the camera, his addressing thing to "Jim" while Bush addressed us. I called a friend who watched seperately and he felt Bush clearly won (Gore voter in 2000).
What a difference a 1/2 hour makes. Dem spin meisters are machines. Kerry could have passed out at the podium and they would have been praising him.
Look who's on. MS-NBC has Ronnie who loves his new found role as enfant-terrible of the left. He loudly calls Kerry the winner.
Howard Feinman from the left news outlet Newsweek: Kerry.
Sadly, Joe Scarboro loudly declares "Kerry won the debate".
CNN has already made up it's mind. Kerry won. But in case your not sure they have Terry Mac on to remind you. Up to provide balance so low-power Republican you've never heard of looking like a dear in the headlights.
Fox had Greta, a not so closet liberal. Cici - clearly a Kerry supporter. For balance they have Bill Kristol. Now I enjoy Kristol a lot but he is a real intellectual, not a partisan message pounder.
I think Bush won the debate. But the liberal media is gleeful in blatently throwing the results to Kerry. Fox works to live up to it's motto: fair and balanced.
No where do you see rabid patisan Democratic spinners couterbalanced by hard core Republican supporters.
In this way the TV media has come in by a vote of 5 to 1 for Kerry as the winner.
Pathetic.
Make no mistake. The main stream media is our enemy. They came out in force with their over-the-top Kerry message. They shameless set up unbalanced match ups. They delivered the verdict they knew they were going to deliver. Kerry won.

Lehrer Stacks Deck Against Bush
I think many people from "our" side wanted the knockout punch...also, Kristol from Fox (and others) was talking about this earlier in the week, that this Bush's chance to end the campaign...also everyone was talking about Kerry's changing position on Iraq and that Bush will hold his feet to the fire and Kerry will have no where to go...well, that didn't happen tonight...I think Kerry's people are in shock that he did as well, I think Bush's people are in shock over how well Kerry did.
I watched. Didn't see it that way. My very liberal, Kerry supporting friend didn't see it that way. The first inkling I had was watching the post-debate coverage. It's interesting to see that many Freepers think Kerry won. I just didn't see that.
But that's politics for you.
My wife always wins my debates with her but not on who's right or who's making more sense but because she is an attack dog and won't back down. For the official score my kids always say I'm right !
For the official score of this Bush-Kerry debate Kerry is my wife and the country are my kids :)
Agreed...I just wish Bush had nailed him more on the flip flops
Rush was 100% right on today on what he said :)
Yeah. Leherer, do we really doubt where PBS stands? Gwen Ifil does the VP, another presumptive Kerry supporter. Then we get Bob Schieffer of the-network-that-lies. Bush agreed to this. Why, I'll never know. Should have insisted on Britt Hume for at least one of them. Or Rush.
No matter what had happened tonight the media would have declared Kerry the clear winner. This is no surprise at all.
Sorry about the vanity. I have approximately 5000 posts on FR since 1999. About 5 are vanities. Sorry.
Excuse me, you go read the transcript, note the questions that were asked and then say there was no bias.
Kerry has been in like 80 debates and has never been knocked out. Gov Weld said last night on H/C that there's no way Kerry will lose in style or on his ability to rattle on. He said if Bush is himself and sticks by his convictions he'll win the "people" over but not the debate points.
It's looking like this is what happened ?
I was just being smart-alecky, but the mods were kinda ticked about vanities tonight: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1232125/posts
I understand what you are saying; I don't believe most people understand it in that context. I am stating what I believe many Bush supports (not operatives) WANTED TO SEE.
I take their point. I will send Jim an apology when I cool down. The MSM really gets me. Thank god for FR.
I had to work at The Great State Fair of Texas tonight, so I avoided the debate. I wanted to have a fresh start after the facts.
My after-action report tells me that:
1. My daughter told me the President goofed once or twice by not answering quickly. How orange is that?
2. I have read in more than one place that Horse-Face probably had the questions ahead of time. This would not surprise me considering what we and the planet Saturn now know about the Mean Street Media and their (wink-wink) love for the most disgusting democrat candidate since George McSocialist in 1972.
3. The usual media have their pom-poms out way before the debate is even a part of history. Kerrrrry could have stood there and drooled and mutterrrred " buuuush Lieeed" and John The Poodle would still be the quarterback on the players shoulders as he is carried off the field.
4. John Kerry is as sad today as he was yesterday. Absent Senator Kerry's life will have to end just as empty as he has lived it. He and Al Gore can start a support group. Maybe they will get so unbelievable drunk, they can have a three-way with Ann (please iron my face) Richards.
The topic for the debate was Iraq. The questions seemed pretty neutral, with a focus on Bush's record. This is pretty legit, I guess. But I think some focus on Kerry's record would have been a little more balanced. Still on the topic of Iraq.
OK...you win! Look around...I have a post around here somewhere from tonight where I state the Bush will edge up or be stable...I just wish the damn thing was over....I hate it...I want Bush and that's it.
I now have a glimsp as to why countries have revolutions ... if Kerry wins...I could see some kind of revolution.
