Part 8 in my continuing series on the mysterious demise of Nick Berg, an American.
Some brand new information about Berg's past, specifically his time spent in Oklahoma. We already know that somehow "on a bus" he met an unidentified man and Berg shared his password and email information with this man. This man then later distributed that pw/email info to Zacarias Moussaoui, the "20th" hijacker allegedly involved in 9/11.
Berg was questioned by the FBI about this before 9/11 and most definitely a second time, AFTER 9/11. He was then questioned at least 3 times in Iraq, making Nick Berg a guy who had been interviewed by the FBI at least 5 times without ever being charged. That's unusual unto itself.

He is insane.
Look at his research, not his ridiculous links about the U.S. In particular the things he dug up about the guy who supposedly had drinks with Berg the night before he left the hotel, the business partner guy, and Berg's life in Oklahoma. If you know of a better resource for this story I'd like to see it.
RThat is in fact interesting but how do you know it is credible after he claims that the tip of an ear identifies the person photographed as "a US soldier"?
I am just looking for info - believe it or not detailed articles on the Berg matter just don't exist yet. Seems like the investigative journalists either can't or won't really go after this one, especially the big hitters.
The crazy Romanian guy rants and raves on many points but there is a lot of data & other links - I don't assume for a minute that everything he says is correct. FR has had very little new stuff on Berg today - and I for one find it utterly impossible to believe that this kid accidentally gave his password out to potential terrorists a few years back, only to end up executed by Al Qaeda in Iraq. I'm not saying he was a terrorist himself, but stupidity doesn't quite cover all of the strange facts about Nick Berg's life.
It is a mystery but stupidity can in fact lead to horrible death. I did see an interesting story today--can't remember where, which quotes his Iraqi business partner Aziz as saying that in his last conversation with Berg, Berg said he had found "four nice men" who were Jordanians and were going to travel with him to Jordan. He also said that berg's cell phone had been used as late as April 19 and were to Jordan and the UAE and some places in Iraq.
Here's the story I was referring to. http://washingtontimes.com/world/20040518-092853-8800r.htm
Thanks for the post - that article is more in depth than most, but it still doesn't do the kind of serious in depth research that the Romanian site does - I'm looking for more of the data behind the known facts & faces....
BTW - for anybody who notices that I created my Freep handle just today, I have in fact been lurking for ages - I just haven't posted before. I'm a life long conservative who protested for W in Florida...
Did I mention that this new Freeper is my sister! Welcome aboard sis!!! Love, GOPWhit
I think if you go to the original thread(s) on Berg, you will find almost everything which has been printed about him and his life--but be prepared everything to date has about 3 or 4 versions.
The Oklahoma details are relatively new, and from what I've seen not touched on in the earlier threads. If you buy the official version that the Moussaoui connection is just a bizarre fluke of circumstance, then perhaps the Oklahoma stuff doesn't seem relevant. But I for one think there is more to the story. I backpacked all over the world in my 20s and never met a fellow conservative with a history or behavior like Bergs.
I am not saying he was necessarily in bed with terrorists, but the inconsistencies don't make for a logical story at this point. In the end it could be a case of a slightly schizo guy who really was just the victim of horrendous decision making coupled with being in the seriously wrong place at the wrong time.
There are three different stories in print on the Moussaoiu connection. His father said Nick lent his pc and password to Moussaoui in the bus; another report said that he lent it to someone else who gave it to Moussaoui. A third report was that he sold his pc to Moussaoui.
The hotel was used by anti-war types in the runup to the invasion. Type in the name--and you';; see. At the present , it's a cheap hotel --$30 a night--used by a lot of yound foreigners in Baghdad.
Oh , didn't notice you were brand new! Welcome to FR nerdgirl!
Ah I'm sorry yes the site is a bit foul w/ its choice of pictures & animated gifs or whatever - and as I've said from the beginning the guy is a bit nutso and certainly anti US - I'm sure his motives for creating the blog on Berg are not purely intellectual, but he has at least done some homework on items that are previously unreported.
As for Berg I know you can't completely stereotype people based on their political leanings....but conservatives DO tend to follow some behavioral patterns. Being a bit more suspicious than liberals is one of them. Also people who are really pro military are likely to be more security oriented. I remember having to argue with my liberal friends in grad school who thought it was cool to wander around bad neighborhoods in New Orleans at night - being the only conservative, I was often the only one pointing out that just because you feel bad about the poor doesn't mean you need to prove it by ignoring common sense.
I was asked over and over again "how can you be a Republican/conservative? You are supporting the murder of innocents around the world!" Most liberal, "I love the peasants of Guatemala, etc" students are very anti US gov - and super anti military. Coming home from Ghana or wherever w/ just the clothes on his back? Because he "gave away all his food money?" Hmmmm... sounds like only the most extreme liberals I've known...
Listen--His academic meanderings and travels afterward do not suggest a well-grounded person and his father is nuttier than a squirrel. Berg still might have been--as his father said--a Bush supporter but there were other things--maybe some kind of screw lose making him too trusting.
I was thinking that too - that Berg might have been mentally ill to some degree. Homeless in a college town? That is simply bizarro. Trusting enough to loan out his email acct or password or laptop or whatever, yet didn't have tight enough friend to crash on a couch?....that seems more like a person w/ some kind of mental illness.
He seemed to seek the fringes or extremes in life - but having no comprehension of the consequences. If he was some kind of brilliant guy, it must have been an idiot/savant kind of thing.
