Vanity: Is protecting Constitution no longer goal of Freerepublic.com?

I have recently noticed that the home page of Free Republic no longer has the icon at the top which states that one of the goals of this website is protecting our freedom and our Constitution. Can anyone help me shed some light on this? I would hope that this is a temporary change and not an official declaration made by the staff of this website. With the lack of articles and lack of alarm posted on this website about the Draconian Patriot 1 and Patriot Act 2 I have began to wonder about whether this site really does support the Constitution.

I am opposed to many aspects of the WOD, especially those law enforcement tactics that trample on the Bill of Rights. However, I am not in favor of legalizing marijuana or any other drug that is now illegal. Legalizing drugs is NOT a goal of FR. Eventually I will set up a special forum in the sidebar for the drug war threads. At the moment they can go to the Smokey Backroom Forum.

I am also concerned and deeply troubled that there is no official stance on chocolate pudding on this site. As conservatives, are we no longer in favor of chocolate pudding. I hope this was a mere oversight by the staff and not a sign of things to come.

Do you know of anyone other than Islamic terrorists who've been adversely affected by these Acts?

I think most of us have been concentrating on defending America first with topics that we all agree with.

I am opposed to the War On Drugs, but I believe the need to stop the anti American idiots is more important at this time.

We need patriotism to stop the destruction of the Constitution. This war may accomplish just that. Once people again believe in the Constitution as written, they will see the War On Drugs as the evil it really is.

By the way, there is no lack of articles or alarm on this site regarding the "Draconian Patriot 1 and Patriot Act 2." They get posted and debated on a daily basis. And, again, if we had a decent judiciary, these things would get tossed out pronto. And, perhaps they will be.

Please understand that we're largely desensitized to the infringement of our liberties thanks to the lunatic fringe that's been assailing our Second Amendment rights (in the name of security) for the past 40 years.

Please also understand that if the government could engage in the oh-so-politically-incorrect practice of profiling Muslim men between the ages of 17 and 45, we wouldn't need the abomination of the Patriot Act(s).

But, thanks to the lunatic fringe, all of us now get to be under the microscope that only a select few should be.

RE: Patriot Act

Maybe not everyone is an alarmist about this stuff. The people for it have made a decent case, the people against it have made a decent case. Its a matter of debate and thought. The problem comes when the Tinfoil Hat Society comes whirling in like some paranoid tornado because people are getting searched at airports or what have you. Many people see this as a grey area and not a red flashing siren of impending doom. And anyways, typically throughout history, when the gov't treads in these grey areas during times of war, when peace resumes, they exit the grey area. So maybe there isn't as much outrage as you'd like, but its hardly an indictment against FR. I appreciate the ability on FR to hold differing viewpoints and to weigh their merits.

Is FR really a debate site anymore? Since the goal is to "replace as many Democrats as possible", has FR given up the idea of debate, and instead become solely a place for Republican activism?

I only ask because the admin moderators seem to relentlessly expunge any posts that express a difference of opinion, thus stifling any debate whatsoever.

And, of course, Darth Sidious was banned because he had the gall to vote for a Democrat (who, in his opinion, was the better candidate). (I also admittedly don't know the whole story.)

Could you please address why the moderators are stifling any differences of opinion. Is it because debate is no longer the goal, while Republican activism is? Perhaps activism was always the goal, but at one time debate was allowed. Now - debate (with differences of opinion) is frowned on, because it doesn't advance activism.

It isn't, really, it's just that a bunch of us got together and talked it over and decided that this "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" stuff has run its course and that it's time to put the ownership of the means of production into the hands of the State where it belongs and place the reins of government into the hands of the workers' collective committees.
