Look, don't have strong feelings one way or another. My wife is a nurse and she has seen some problems with men that don't take care of their youknowhats. She wanted all of ours to get cut because of that and adhesions. I can't say that I ever recall missing mine.

Well, I don't think there's much public support for carpet-bombing countries on the grounds that they practice female circumcision, so what would you suggest?

Maybe you're just not familiar with feminist causes, but female mutilation is certainly one of them. What would you suggest they do? Is supporting a large military going to stop female mutilation? I don't think so.

Granted. I watched a documentary on it -- 13-year-old girls being lined up and sent into a not-very-sanitary tent, with some old nurse lady with a scary-looking, possibly rusted blade ready to lop off labias left and right. You could tell that NONE of the women were happy about having to endure or perform the 'surgery', if you can call it that. Brutal.

I'm having a tough time believing this. I can't believe that any man or woman would do this or allow it to be done if it's done as described.

It's done but it is a cultural practice not a religious one. Note how the article ties religion with cultural practice but can provides ancedotes from one region of Africa.

It is times like these that illustrate many of the great ironies in American politics: Jews vote overwhelmingly democratic yet conservatives are more supportive of Israel; Pacifist rail against American aggression yet these are same people who cry that we aren't doing enough to help 3rd world countries suffering under authoritarian regimes; and feminist shout out for diversity but where do they turn when confronted with the atrocities against women in the Middle East? This procedure is roughly equivalent to cutting the entire head off of the penis. Male circumsision would be more like cutting off the clitoral hood, not the clit itself.

Lots of American Xian males are circumcised. Lots of us like being that way.

OK, what I was trying to avoid saying was that even if you "whacked his thing off", you would not have taken as much tissue in many cases (sorry, guys) that has been taken from these women.

Plus, often that is equated with castration, which involves removal of the testicles. Since this female circumcision removes tissue relating to pleasure, and they leave the ovaries in place, (thank Allah - can you imagine removing THEM with a broken piece of glass?????) it isn't the same as castration in a male. See how difficult it is to find an equal treatment in a male?

In addition, the external and internal labia are protective in function, and to remove them literally "opens up" the area to infection. Also, these poor women must pee all over themselves since they have no "aim" mechanism left! That would make it tough to squat and pee without wetting yourself and maybe THAT is why they don't object so much to covering their faces since they are most likely constantly embarrassed.

The fact that they don't want women to have any sexual pleasure makes it even easier to hate them, doesn't it? The kind of man who would dream up this torture is simply sick. Since they aren't men enough for a whole woman, they have to cut her up. Sick, sick, sick.

Maybe that's why they hate us so much, we have Clitoris Power. tee hee
