STATESBORO, Georgia; ANDERSON, South Carolina––The 2026 record pace of fatal dog attacks, especially pit bull attacks, remains ahead of the 2025 pace, when dogs killed 84 Americans, 64 of whom were killed by pit bulls.
Pit bulls in the two weeks of May 2026 killed two babies in reported incidents. Other dogs are unknown to have killed anyone.
The deaths of the two infants brought the total number of U.S. fatal dog attacks for the year to 32, 23 by pit bull.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore told the WSPA News team that “The babysitter was also watching a friend’s dog at the time of the incident.
“At some point in time, shortly after [Dean’s dad] left, she was going to let the dog out, and she was holding the baby,” Shore explained. “When she released the dog, the dog attacked her and grabbed the baby, causing fatal injuries to the baby.”

Bangor Pit Bull Fatally Shot After Allegedly Charging at Child; Owner Faces Charges

A Bangor dog owner is facing civil charges after his pit bull reportedly charged aggressively toward his neighbor’s three-year-old on Tuesday, and the neighbor fatally shot the dog.
At approximately 8:48 a.m., the Bangor Police Department received a report of shots fired on March Street.
Officers responded and allegedly found that a resident of March Street had fired at and struck a large dog after it charged at him and his toddlers.
Adam Stade, the man who shot the pit bull named “Blink,” spoke with the Maine Wire and explained his side of the story.

Stade said that after the incident, he began getting death threats online. He provided a screenshot of some of the messages he received from a Facebook user by the name Reegan Katherine, who appeared to explicitly threaten to murder Stade and wish death upon his son.

A case can be made that pit bull owners are mentally ill.

Did wonder about this before reading news story.
The father was in front of the toddler; the dog was charging.
Owner of dog apparently let go of collar, the dog was running free and untethered on purpose . . . owner fully responsible here, IMO.
Would that the lady’s partner been as the father of the toddler in post #5.
So sorry.
Owner of the dogs should be punished accordingly.

True. And for many years and even now, when it is, the person pointing it out is shouted down, smeared, covered up, insulted, denigrated, and heckled, both to their face, and in print.
Comedians are used to all that, publicly and on stage. Not bulletproof, per se, but can fire back much more quickly and aggressively than the rest of regular ppl.
It may come as an interesting fact that the Best Friends Animal Society, out of Utah, - Pit Bull Pushers Supreme - were originally founded as The Process Church of The Final Judgement, a.k.a. “Process Church”.

Also, fire extinguishers - foam or powder - aimed directly into the animal’s nose and mouth to inhibit breathing - have been found to be very effective (75%) defense weapons.
