A mother-of-four was handcuffed in front of her children and hauled off to jail after she allowed her 11-year-old son to walk less than a mile into a small town.
Brittany Patterson went to drive her eldest son to a medical appointment on October 30, 11-year-old Soren, was supposed to tag along - but was not around when it was time to leave
She had figured he was simply playing in the woods or visiting his grandmother, Patterson told the outlet, noting that her father lives with them and her mother and sisters live just two minutes away.
But it turned out Soren decided to walk to downtown Mineral Bluff, a town of just 370 people that is less than a mile from their home.
He was spotted alongside the road by a woman who asked if he was OK, and even though he replied that he was, the woman called police
A female sheriff's deputy then picked up the boy, and called Patterson.
'I know the roads and know he is mature enough to walk there without incident,' Patterson said of the street that has a speed limit of up to 35mph.
The deputy, however, 'kept mentioning how he could have been run over, or kidnapped or "anything" could have happened,'
The deputy ultimately drove Soren home and left him with his grandfather.
around 6.30pm that night, the deputy showed up with another officer, handcuffed Patterson and brought her to jail, where she was fingerprinted, had her mugshot taken and was put in prison garb, according to an online fundraiser set up for her legal bills.
She said she did not understand what was happening, as she had grown up in the area with unsupervised time to wander and play, and was raising her children that way as well.

Orwellian.
Now Social Services will take the kids and sell them for slavery, etc
When I was 11 I was riding my bike up to five miles delivering newspapers!...................
Hopefully they can be sued for treating her in such manner.

Seeing a pattern here.
Same here. This is ridiculous.
This happened in Mineral Bluff, Georgia
For anyone wondering, this happened in Mineral Bluff, Georgia
Yet another example of government overreach. Good thing he wasn’t a squirrel or Racoon!
Imagined harm is not the same a actual harm - These morrons should have learned that before being given authority that causes actual harm.
Just weird, from age 5 until I got a motorcycle and my learners permit at 15 1/2, I walked over a mile to school every day. Of course that was in the 1950s and ‘60s before authoritarianism was in effect.
I used to walk to school by myself when I was 5 or 6 sometimes. The deputy should be fired and personally sued. What a disgrace.
Same here.
When I was 11 I rode the bus from the suburbs to downtown Columbus, Ohio to go to the movies.
I had a large paper route with over 160 subscribers. Sunday deliveries were a bitch. I had to tie a wagon to the back of my bicycle.
We were out walking and biking everywhere, all the time.
Something tells me there is more to the story here. This woman is VERY attractive. In a town of 370 people, I’m sure she is on the mind of virtually all the males of age in this town, and has probably had to spurn more than a few.
I suspect the cops may be included there, and they thought they would teach her a lesson.
My Dad used to hop on the streetcar when he was 8 to 10 yrs old in Illinois and ride it over to St. Louis to watch the St. Louis Browns play some place where the kids could peer through the fence. St. Louis had a lot more people then than today.
My grandfather got a job on the railroad in southern Illinois when he was 7.
the mother should call their bluff...
“When I was 11 I was riding my bike up to five miles delivering newspapers!...................”
When I was 9 I had to ride a bike to school and back about half a mile on a two-lane highway in Jacksonville, Florida. Back then, you didn’t have to worry about girls getting kidnapped or about inane leftists throwing your parents in jail for letting you go “unsupervised”. I long for the good ole days to return.
Maybe these cops could start at the bottom of South America and work their way up to our border while arresting all the parents who have let their children walk across a continent? Or better yet, arrest all the people who have been selling their children into slavery?
