The Taoiseach has said that what is happening in Gaza is not just self-defense on the part of Israel, but it “resembles something more approaching revenge”.
Leo Varadkar’s comments come as Israeli ground troops are encircling Gaza City this morning.
He said that it is very important that people “never forget where this started”, adding that this phase of the conflict started with a Hamas attack on Israel where 1,400 civilians were killed, including one person who was a dual Israeli-Irish citizen.
“I strongly believe, like any state, Israel has a right to defend itself, has the right to go after Hamas, so they can not do this again,” Mr. Varadkar said. “But what I am seeing unfolding at the moment isn’t just self-defense; it resembles something more approaching revenge and that’s not where we should be and I don’t think it is how Israel will guarantee its future freedom and security.” […]
The Taoiseach added that given what has been said by Israel and Israeli authorities, “they wouldn’t consider us [Ireland] to be close friends and allies the way they would consider the US, UK or Germany to be. It is a state we have relations with, but I don’t think we are as close as we might have been or perhaps could be, because we do take a different position than most western countries on Palestine and what’s happening at the moment.” …

Oh that’s rich coming from the country that went to the German Embassy after Hitler killed himself and signed the condolence book.
Regrettably, the Irish are the leading Jew-haters in Europe.
What was the murder, rape, torture and beheading of Israeli elders, women, toddlers and infants by the Flying Monkey Squadron on JaySeven “approaching”?
all could have been avoided if Hamas hadn’t murdered the babies
but Ireland doesn’t want to talk about that part
Ok, so???
France, Germany, and Sweden have all imported huge numbers of Muslims. Assimilation has not happened. To the contrary, terrorism has increased. What has Ireland learned from this?
Well, nothing. Ireland is currently importing Muslims. So I must reluctantly move the Irish government into the Very Stupid column, and ignore anything they might say.
Everybody keeps demanding that the Israeli government follow international law.
They declared war on Hamas, the political entity of Gaza. What are the rules of war that apply here? The government army hides behind it’s civilians and under Hospitals and Religious sites, what is the rule of War with this? The government army hides in tunnels, what is the rule of war here?
How do all of these people demand that Israeli government follow the rules of war, but do not demand that Hamas (the elected government of Gaza) follow those laws?
The ‘rules of war’ should not apply to a people that elect a government that does what Hamas did. In my opinion, when you elect a government that does those things, you have no rights when the war comes and no law that protects you.
To any violent bully who gets punched in the face, it is revenge.
I am perfectly fine with this.
I view every violent, criminal terrorist who meets his fate as revenge, and don’t have an issue with that.
Was Bin Laden getting a bullet in the face “revenge”? Am I supposed to feel bad about that?
The only thing I feel bad about is my government and fellow Americans who want Israel to stop. I also subscribe to protest chant the Leftists have adopted “From the River to The Sea”, but it doesn’t end with “Palestine will be free”.
As if a “proportional response” for the butchering of babies should not include the annihilation of the murderous savages behind it.
What Israel is doing is “self defense” against barbarians.
...and I don't blame the IDF one bit if it does. Hamas started it and deserves whatever Israel gives them to finish it.
These pleas for mercy and ceasefire are typical of the classic bully who throws a sucker punch and receives a world-class beat-down he so richly deserves.
The Irish Republic gave sanctuary to IRA terrorists during “The Troubles.” Screw their opinion.
Sounds like the OJ verdict.
Only good thing the IRA did was blow up that pedo, Mountbatten. Unfortunately they took some innocents with him.
That was a favorite meme of the left.
My response to this agenda-driven official,
"All combat approaches revenge. Revenge is reached upon senseless murder and destruction after the enemy is defeated."
The threat to innocent civilians is perhaps only avoided with either the surrender of its leaders or the surgical removal of those leaders. (Friday afternoon rant/off.)
Yep, a half-hearted preamble about how Israel has a right to defend itself followed by a big BUT and then he says what he really came to say, which is that Israel needs to back down. These people are as predictable as clockwork.
> Oh that’s rich coming from the country that went to the German Embassy after Hitler killed himself and signed the condolence book. <
Yep. Some people defend Irish President de Valera‘s actions there by pointing out that Ireland was neutral. And that’s how neutrals were supposed to behave.
That doesn’t hold water. Many death camps had been liberated by that time. People knew just how evil Hitler was. de Valera did more than ignore that. He actually called the initial death camp reports Allied propaganda.
Add that to my post #7, and I must conclude that something is very wrong in the Emerald Isle.
