A new national poll suggests Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida topping Democratic President Biden in a hypothetical 2024 presidential election matchup.
However, the same poll suggests that Biden leads former President Trump.
The survey from the Suffolk University and USA Today also indicates that Republican voters would prefer DeSantis over Trump as their standard-bearer in 2024 by double digits. …

I think it is likely true. Consider that DeSantis flipped Miami Dade from blue to red. Even Trump did not do that.

The media who love DeSantis now would tear him apart if he won the nomination. Remember when Bob Dole went from the media’s favorite “senior statesman” in the primary to out of touch old man in the presidential race? They wanted the contrast to the younger Bill Clinton.
Same thing was done to McCain and Romney.

When Trump was on the ballot in 2016 Clinton win Miami Dade 63.2 to 33.8.
In 2020, Biden won it 53.4 to 46.1.
This year Desantis won Miami Dade 55.3 to 44, and won the race 59.4 to 40.
He effectively added huge margins to the Republican base.
That's the the sort of intellectual laziness that does no one any good.
You can believe there was election fraud and still want there to be a spirited primary for Republicans which may mean President Trump but perhaps someone other than President Trump wins the nomination.
