Cognitive behavioral therapy is OK, at best. Psychiatry is currently way off track, IMHO. People are individuals, with individual issues. Psychiatry doesn’t treat individuals anymore. As a field, it is now focused on universal solutions - which is usually a drug.
This is a real touchy subject for many.
If somebody claims it does not help, they might want to say what does.
I know people on this medication and discipline is not their strong suit.
I find reading scripture aloud to be a helpful practice. The psalms particularly.

Most mental illness is result of childhood trauma. They dont call it the formative years for nothing. Another big factor is the natural deportment of the child...introvert or extrovert...will determine how they interpret whether a threat exists or not. Soooo many adults carry around a damaged inner child...and look to outside things for anxiety/depression relief. Unfortunately Dr’s are happy to prescribe potent mind altering drugs anytime. No wonder suicides and other insane behaviors are at record highs.
Thank you. Yes. I whole-heartedly agree. It is because God is with me, ESPECIALLY through the reading of His Word, that I am not overcome by despair. He HAS heard my despairing cry and HAS and WILL CONTINUALLY kept me.
You have encouraged me, Brother. Thank you. I hope my sharing this helps others, too. God hasn’t, for whatever reason, taken away my depression. But, I am confident He will hold me close all the way through it.
I appreciate you sharing your struggle. I am glad to know I am not alone.
Yep, everybody on SSRIs are fat, lazy, and stay indoors. /s
Heyyyy, watch it. C’mon, man!
“...cognitive behavioral therapy. That will include lifestyle interventions such as improving diet, exercise, coaching on problem solving skills, social skills, etc.”
Try dumping all that on a patient with a Hamilton-D score of 30 or greater. Ain’t gonna happen.
Prayers for all of us.

Except it isn’t.
It’s a shame that these people don’t have a clue. Distorted thinking causes depression as well as distressing events.
Anti-depressants force the brain to process information when it is attempting to not process upsetting things.

We are all in this together. Thank you for your kind words.
I saw a cartoon that showed a person holding a bottle of pills for depression and the other person standing there said how about going outside and meeting people.
Suggestions for research for depression mitigation for Christians. May the Holy Spirit guide your search.

Antidepressants may reduce anxiety more than depressive symptoms. Study on Lancet Psychiatry: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(19)30366-9/fulltext DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/S2215-0366(19)30366-9
The PANDA study was a pragmatic, multicentre, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomised trial of patients from 179 primary care surgeries in four UK cities (Bristol, Liverpool, London, and York). We included patients aged 18 to 74 years who had depressive symptoms of any severity or duration in the past 2 years.
