Most mental illness is result of childhood trauma. They dont call it the formative years for nothing. Another big factor is the natural deportment of the child...introvert or extrovert...will determine how they interpret whether a threat exists or not. Soooo many adults carry around a damaged inner child...and look to outside things for anxiety/depression relief. Unfortunately Dr’s are happy to prescribe potent mind altering drugs anytime. No wonder suicides and other insane behaviors are at record highs.

This thread is reminding me that the first thing the doc did for kidnap victim Jaycee Lee Dugard was to drug her to deal with her extraordinary abuse. I’m sure they were doing cognitive therapy, too, but she had survived amazingly well. There’s a lot there to unwrap, and it will take a lot of time for her.
My own experience is that they prescribe these SSRIs all too quickly. I think these drugs are doing more harm than good for most of the population to whom they are prescribed.
