A Washington State inmate was sentenced to an additional 24 years for murdering his cellmate - a convicted child rapist who had abused his minor sister.
Shane Goldsby, 26, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges, and was sentenced last week for beating his cellmate Robert Munger, 70, to death in June 2020.
Munger was serving a 43-year prison sentence at the Airway Heights Correctional facility on multiple child molestation and child pornography charges, when Goldsby was assigned to his cell.
Goldsby said that he killed Munger after discovering his younger sister, who is still a minor, was one of Munger's victims, KHQ reported.
Goldsby expressed his disbelief that something like that could happen, and that when he found out who Munger was, he requested a different cellmate, but was ignored.
'I had so much stuff going on in my head,' he said. 'I wasn't stable at that point. I wasn't.
I was getting to that point, because (Munger) kept wanting to give me details about what happened, what he did – about the photos and the videos of him doing this stuff.

I am finding it hard to not have some sympathy for the killer.
Karma or OOOPs?
The Fey Wray and Garland never seem to administer True Justice.
I’m rather surprised the arresting staff didn’t forget to read him his rights before questioning.
Given that he asked to be reassigned, and probably stated why, the prison is liable for this.
Or bored prison guards that knew exactly who the two men were, and just wanted to see the resulting beating.
Perhaps they didn't anticipate murder, but they probably expected some trouble, and orchestrated it.
“I wasn’t stable at this point.”
I beg to differ. Sounds pretty sane to me.
I’d have had difficulty in not doing it as well, if I were in his situation.
I’d give him time off of his original sentence.
Of all the joints in all the towns in all the world, he walks into mine.
I’m thinking both families have a case against the prison.
One would like to think that they couldn’t be that stupid, but…..
Capital punishment at its finest. And, IMHO, the dirtbag rapist deserved what he got.
Too bad the 26 year old didn’t get his sentence reduced to “time served” for this.
Maybe a pardon if I were the governor. 2 wrongs make a right.
Maybe that extra 24 hours will be for the catering service to set up a Staak dinner for him.
I’m sure the family of the victim would agree.
I was thinking that if I were the judge, I'd find some technicality to not extend his sentence but your solution might be better.
The kid sounds like a piece of work. Constantly fighting with corrections officers which caused multiple transfers. I suspect that they were BOTH set up.
I would have given him an award and commuted his sentence
Might even pardon him...
“The kid sounds like a piece of work. Constantly fighting with corrections officers which caused multiple transfers. I suspect that they were BOTH set up.”
Win win.
Do you truly believe they made an oops?
The other inmate told them he wanted a change of roommate and why, and they refused.
If it was an oops they would have seen the big problem here and changed it.
