More than half a century since they were modernized, hate crime laws in the U.S. are inconsistent and provide incomplete methods for addressing bias-motivated violence, according to a new report by advocates for better protections.
The report, first shared with The Associated Press ahead of its Wednesday release, is a comprehensive national review of hate crime laws that shows gaps and variances in the laws. Due to the complexity of hate violence, certain statutes meant to protect racial minorities and marginalized groups are less effective, as a consequence of bias in the criminal justice system, the report says.
The existing laws can even discourage hate crime victims from coming forward, advocates say in the report, which also cites widespread flaws in the collection and reporting of data.
“We really think this is the first report to bring together a state-by-state analysis along so many dimensions … with a focus on racial justice and criminal justice reform,” said Naomi Goldberg, LGBTQ program director for the Movement Advancement Project, which authored the report in partnership with over 15 national civil rights groups.
The coalition of civil rights organizations includes Asian Americans Advancing Justice—AAJC, the National Center for Transgender Equality and the Southern Poverty Law Center. Goldberg described it as an unprecedented collaboration in the advocacy space. …

I am interested to know who is countering this crap.
I don’t see it.
Counter it and get cancelled.
Just no.
There is no such thing as a Hate Crime. There is only Crime.
There are those who turn justice into wormwood and cast righteousness to the ground.
Amos 5:7
In the past year, we’ve seen a lot of videos showing young blacks sneaking up on people - often elderly people - and brutally knock them down, sometimes kicking and beating them. I wonder how many of those attacks end up being classified as “hate crimes”?
Yes, blacks are accused of hate crimes, and commit them in disproportionate numbers year after year, according to FBI statistics. Nonetheless, I have had the distinct impression that authorities often try very hard NOT to classify crimes committed by blacks (or Muslims) as hate crimes, if they can find the slimmest excuse not to.
How is Critical Race Theory not racist hate speech?
comments are usually disabled these days
A headline on our local news last night was that it is suspected that the local police are not actually reporting all of the hate crimes they investigate. As if it is some kind of cover-up, instead of just maybe everything isn’t really a hate crime, and the LEO know that.
I go on youtub and get comments removed all the time.
And yes, most MSM media are turned off.
Not all though.
Anything involving leftist,RINOcrats and or otherwise the sub-government lacks uniformity.
A few days ago on another conservative site, there was a story on education, and I made a reference to certain classic books I had to read in high school. One of the books I listed was “Moby Dick,” Herman Melville’s novel about the whaling captain obsessed with finding the white whale that had bitten-off his leg. The comment was removed by the moderators, apparently because it contained the word “dick.” These censorship algorithms lack context, and can be utterly ridiculous.
FR is WAY too obsessed with “what the enemy is doing” and not nearly as focused on what we, the Patriotic Right should be doing and what our goals are.
We know what the Left’s objective is: Worldwide Totalitarian Government - and whatever it take to get there. No mystery.
Do we know what the objective of the Patriotic Right is or should be?
Surprisingly, yes. I have been reading for 10 years at least that blacks are frequently listed as hate crime peeps.
The irony is the article says blacks are listed as race crime peeps out of proportion to their POPULATION. No mention of percentage of perps, which is the key stat.
Ha!
You said re’dic’ulous.
See we are still good to go here.
“... modernized?”
Good point.
Out of proportion to our actions.
It gets to be like complaining to the boss at work about problems without offering any solutions.
My problem is that I can only suggest stomping on the propagandists heads.
Nobody seems to wants to join me in that.
That would take effort and I would have to put down my Ipad.
Try going back to that site and posting information about that great actor D**k Van D**e.
There was a thread a few days ago about a Twitter or Facebook post that was deleted. It was a gardening thread and members were discussing how to use a hoe.
Evidently Twitter or Facebook, I can’t remember which, thought they were disparaging our illustrious vice president.
Yes, because states and localities make their own laws, so of course they differ.
“Hate crime” laws should be thrown out wholesale as unenforceable and unconstitutional because the criteria to define them is so vague.
What if you assault someone and the victim is INCIDENTALLY a “covered” minority or sexual deviant? Who gets to ascribe if and how much motivation against their “status” played into it? What if the actor does hate blacks/homos but the crime was committed incidental to this fact?
Does the victim get to claim his own “feelings” amount to motive of the attacker?
That’s why it’s not called the “United State”.
This is merely an op-ed you’re reacting to.
Remember that God still rules in the governments of men and events turn the way they do for a reason.
