Jamaica Faces Marijuana Shortage as Farmers Struggle
AP News ^ | February 5, 2021 | SHARLENE HENDRICKS and DÁNICA COTO

Heavy rains followed by an extended drought, an increase in local consumption and a drop in the number of marijuana farmers have caused a shortage in the island’s famed but largely illegal market that experts say is the worst they’ve seen.

“It’s a cultural embarrassment,” said Triston Thompson, chief opportunity explorer for Tacaya, a consulting and brokerage firm for the country’s nascent legal cannabis industry.

Jamaica, which foreigners have long associated with pot, reggae and Rastafarians, authorized a regulated medical marijuana industry and decriminalized small amounts of weed in 2015.

Jamaica has a shortage of marijuana? Milton Friedman was correct. If you put the government in charge of the Sahara, in a few years there would be a shortage and rationing of sand.

“This is a cultural embarassment”.
How about seeing what some other “experts” say,
Worse than Watergate?
Worse than Sept 11?
Worse than Covid?
I can almost hear Pelosi snd Schumer making case for a foreign aid package to Jamaica.

Only 1.1% of the population in Jamaica is Rastafarian. That’s half the number of Catholics.

I’m what’s considered a professional by any measure on this topic and especially Jamaica and Colombia and nowadays the Cow states Michigan and Colorado

Thai weed would dry out on a ship voyage plus Thai corrupt officials could and would seriously eff you over and you could get major time in a tropic dungeon

In the old days Jamaican weed was the best mass produced you could get in this hemisphere in serious quantity.....Belize had better herb but no large quantity

Problem with Jamaica is they did not keep up and penalties for smuggling in 1987 got super serious like ten year minimum mandatories for relatively smallish smuggling loads of a few tonnes

Jamaican weed may have been 7-12 percent THC....seedless weed ....trying to compete with USA domestic sensemila with twice that strength and hundreds of strains and easier access..

The mid 90s everything switched from smuggling weed to domestic grows and still is today

Mexico always had commercial grade green bud for cheap but few people want it anymore

Plus edibles and concentrates....

Jamaica sells mainly to tourists and folks are disappointed with quality

What jamaica could do is up their game and ship it to Europe and make edibles for whomever

Jamaica always had pot oil by the barrel but it was poor quality and destined for Canada thru a pipeline via sea craft controlled by :Mohawks
