I put Soccer & World Cup in same category as the WNBA

Feels like this soccer crap is being forced on us on ESPN, etc. Yes, just change the channel but why is there this effort to make believe that Americans love soccer and love the WNBA? They are two artificially created.

Cool! You just reminded me. We don’t have cable, only Over The Air. Works out fine in the Big City. Anyway, since we don’t have cable, we don’t have ESPN. But your little rant reminded me that we do have Univision, the Spanish station which carries the World Cup games over the air. So I can watch the World Cup games for free!

GOAL!

USA now leads Ghana, 1-0.

Actually the rest of the world doesn’t call it football. Football is generally the name of the big rectangular field sport in the region. In a lot of places that soccer, in some places it’s rugby, even Ausie rules football. There’s actually a lot of the world that calls soccer soccer.

I think the big problem is has is so many people insist America not liking soccer is some deep character flaw in the country. Nothing makes a bunch of people hate something more than telling them they must be idiots for hating it. It’s an OK sport, it’s not great, it’s not awful, could do with some rule tweaks.

WNBA is more manly than soccer.

...maybe we should get Don Imus’ opinion on that...

...what was the phrase he used...?

I find “soccer” (football) way more masculine than what you call “football” (Rugby for cowards than need to wear armor).

...I suggest you volunteer to run a typical crossing route against even a high school opponent coming at you full bore to deny you the catch...

...then you can have some credibility to talk about cowards...

At least the WNBA has scantily clad women . . . er, wait, I guess soccer does too. Never mind.

I don't care for soccer nor do I enjoy watching baseball even tho I'm a softball fanatic. Both are equally boring......

With that being said, the best vacation to Honduras I ever had was back in the 90's when the World Cup was going on. It was electrifying! At the small resort we stayed in Tela Mar, there was an outdoor bar that had a 32 inch TV and the seats were jam packed with Hondurans watching every single game that was being televised..........You couldn't help but get involved in the atmosphere of people who love and understand the game.......

GO USA!

I’m extremely surprised someone that just wrote the comment you did is on free republic and is in any way conservative.

That you are proves the point that similar political attitudes don’t equal indications that someone would be someone you’d want to hang around with.

I could’t to stand you for a half a minute.

I think you may then be at least partially gay, seeing Soccer players as scantily clad women.

Perhaps you should seek therapy or a priest or something.

Considering you're likely speaking from personal experience, I would suggest he avoids your advice..........It obviously didn't work for you.

"If you don’t like it, don’t bother watching it. I plan to watch as many of the games as possible. Get used to the fact that more Americans are watching soccer now than ever before."

Exactly. No idea why some people choose to find the sport itself so threatening. But that's the beauty of the free market. You can vote with your remote, phone or mouse. The fact that ESPN keeps offering more and more tells me where those free market votes are going...

Nothing wrong with that. A soccer game at a local sports bar is a good way to bond with the locals and see what the people are like.

I wouldn’t say you offended football. I doubt the sport cares if any individual likes it or not.

I remember back in the 70’s when they were trying to jam this down our throats, along with the metric system..

...did I say there’s anything wrong with it...? As I recall, I referred to it as a ‘dream vacation’...

...by the way, with your posting of the Michael Sam fiasco with his little boy toy, are you attempting to intimate that there are no homosexual soccer players...? If so, I think you’d be very much mistaken...

"...what was the phrase he used...?"

It was an odd gardening phrase. Something about nappy headed rakes, or nappy headed shovels. Never quite understood it.
