Escape from California, FReeper advice sought on Wyoming
Vanity | 11/07/2012 | MarineBrat

I think I've had enough. I live in the most conservative stronghold of California, near FreeRepublic itself, but I've had it. I have long considered where I should take my skills, and Wyoming comes to mind. A very large state with the lowest population in the union. I see that Wyoming (69%R, 28%D) came in 2nd only to Utah (73%R, 25%D). Are there any Wyoming FReepers who can give me the lowdown on the state? All I require to make a living is a decent internet connection.

If I were to plan a driving vacation to Wyoming to get a look around, what are the cities I should consider? How does the tax situation there compare to places like Texas or Oklahoma?

Thanks for your time,

MarineBrat

My son reported a conversation he had this summer with a 24 year old young lady from Wyoming. As I recall, the gist of it seemed to be the state of Wyoming is flush enough to provide education beyound high school to all of its young people. This YL had two degrees in technical fields and was working for an oil company in North Dakota. Three months at work, three months off or something like that.

The state government seems to be fiscally conservative.

There are a couple of bike gatherings at the Lake of the Ozarks every summer. Two wheelers have fun at the shops around the Bagnel Dam (the dam created our lake in 1930.) I'm sure there is chatter about these gatherings.

Check funlake.com for events hereabouts.

I moved to Salt Lake City from Los Angeles in 1982. I was born in LA in 1948 and raised there. The over population and wacko antigunhuntingselfdefense lliberonszis finally became too much. I have never been sorry. I can throw some camping gear and some guns in my truck and be isolated within 3 hours. Wyoming and Idaho are a hop skip and a jump away. I love the intermountain west. I even like the mormons. I don’t agree with their relig ious beliefs, but most of them understand the importance of freedom, unlike all liberals and most republicans. I will never return to that shythole, LA, not ever.

St George will get snow in the winter once or twice - enough for the kids to have fun, and then it’s gone, so 30’s would be the low in the winter. Summer is mostly dry heat, except for July and August when we get monsoons and some pretty amazing thunderstorms, but during those months, it’s not as hot because of the clouds/rain. Elevation around 2500’. I actually live up the freeway about 50 miles in Cedar City - 5800’ so more snow in the winter, but not nearly as hot in the summer. I love it here. I’ll trade the beaches for Zion Natl Park any day.

Well that’s not too bad!! Texas would be a warmer climate though down by the town of San Benito. Grow fruit all winter and summer there... Might need to pack there...

I love CA also but left in June. I figure the illegals, envirowackos and the public employee unions will collapse the place soon then maybe I can move back and help rebuild. If not, I can still go back to visit family and get a dose of the beauty.

“Oh, Mitt Romney’s not going to be president of the United States,” Pelosi said with a laugh, during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think everybody knows that.” Pelosi

There is only one way you can be sure of the outcome in advance.
