Except for his unfortunate go along to get along support of TARP, bailouts, stimulus spending and the increased credit limit, etc, Ryan is a pretty good choice. Probably the best choice of the RINOS that were on Romney's short list. I support Ryan for the vice presidency. Wish he were at the top of the ticket, though.
But I still cannot and will not support the grand father of ObamaCare. Romney still loves and brags about his bastard brainchild, RomneyCare, even today when he knows what an anti-liberty socialist POS it is.
And the fact that he advocated that abortion should be safe and legal in America for over three decades of his adult lifetime and even advocated that Roe v Wade should be supported and sustained as settled law precludes any consideration whatsoever by this pro-life Christian for Myth Romney for the presidency.
And the fact that he boasted that he would be better for "gay rights" than Ted Kennedy, and proved it just increases my resistance.
That, and his penchant for gun control, his continuing support for global warming, gays in the scouts, gays in the military, and his record of appointing liberal judges makes it all but impossible for me to support him.
Lastly, we're having a bit of changeover on our moderator staff. At least two moderators resigned this afternoon after I flatly refused to rein in a so-called anti-Mormon "bigot" on FR. Well, if being in opposition to false prophets and false prophecy makes a Christian believer a bigot, then I guess I'm a bigot. I've posted before that I flat do not believe that the Book of Mormon is the true word of God. Nor do I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The Christian bible warns us to be weary of false prophets and that I am. Romney being the presumptive Republican nominee does not change that fact.
Agreed. Romney must have decided he really does need to throw conservatives a bone, after all the trial balloons indicating much worse options.
I still don't know what I'm going to do this fall. If I were in a solid red or solid blue state I'd probably vote Constitution Party. Missouri Right to Life was so annoyed this year that they actually refused to endorse any Republican or Democrat for the lieutenant governor post and endorsed the Constitution Party candidate, who was formerly a Republican state legislator. I may not be wasting my vote with her, as I will be at the presidential level — it would be nice to see an organized Christian conservative revolt actually get a third party candidate into a statewide office.

I don't know the details of this ... can you post links to the allegedly “bigoted” anti-Mormon posts?
Your board, your rules. Sorry for the resignations, but I don't think you have been quiet about your views of Mormons.
More important, the Mormons have not been silent about their views of orthodox Christians, even though they downplay their views and talk mostly to each other, not in public.
I do not think it will take long to find some very “bigoted” stuff in official Mormon doctrine criticizing “priestcraft” by Christian clergy.
Mormons have some really bad things to say about orthodox Christians. Why should it be them demanding tolerance for their cult when they say stuff that's as bad if not worse about us?
Without God, there is no Republic regardless.
God has already “sorted it out”—it’s in His Word, the Holy Bible, the words of which will judge men who are without God His way.
I see what you did there.
And alas, all too true........
Luke, I’ve made it quite clear that I disagree with the theological premises of the LDS, but the questions have to be obvious. Inasmuch as the LDS has endorsed standards of clean and moral living that are shared by most civilized world religions, why is it seemingly winking at how Mitt Romney has carried on his governance contrary to such standards? Why didn’t Mitt sooner bow out of the governor’s seat in Massachusetts than be an instrument of setting up gay marriage there? And why didn’t Mitt’s doing so create a huge hubbub in Salt Lake City?
The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.
I don’t know, I thought Obama would be bad, real bad, but he is even worse than I thoguth he would be.
I look around my area and my state and I see utter devistation and we are better off than much of the country. My City is more than solvent, the state has a lower than average unemployment rate and a rainy day fund. Thanks to the new Republican Governanace.
Yet, so many closed businesses, so many long term unemployed, so many forclosures, so man empty stores and restyaurants. I took my family to a local inexpensive restaurant today. Normally it is packed. Very little going on at 6pm. Waitress said business is getting worse and worse. very nervous. fewer and fewer customers comming in every week.
I live in a very nice community, solid middle to upper middle class one that never has any forclosures, yet now, and for seeveral years, there are dozens all the time.
Every forclosure, every lay off, every lost job oprotunity, every closed business is another family that is in trouble, another loss of hope, another serious blow to society.
Obama has been bad, his reality has been much worse than his threat.
How is he patriotic?
Exactly. And in good conscience, I cannot agree with the badness is over-exaggerated, mere threats, or hyperbole. It's real, it's evil, and he's destroying our country.
If I have to choose between long odds and Zero odds, I too will choose the former.
For my family, country and future generations who would want to be born.
Why, every time Barack has told one of his whoppers about Mitt.
Because he is a bishop in that church. A leader they follow.
Because they're waiting until after the election. The rats and the RINO's don't want to get voted out of office for passing more tax increases and getting caught with more pork spending.
Luke-
As a Jew, I have often found it strange that I relate so much with the Christian right. I admire the tenants of kindness, peace, nonjudgmental acceptance and the love of humanity displayed by the Christ of Christianity.
Having spent a great deal of time in Germany and Austria, I met many young, American, Mormon missionaries and when I did, never failed to treat them to breakfast or lunch and visit with them.
I don’t know enough about the differences in what I guess I would call more traditional Christianity and Mormonism- yet after today I found myself intrigued. I did not know that such hatred and intolerance existed toward Mormons.
Growing up as a Jew, I have known all my life the effects of such a misunderstanding of who I am. I am sorry to see such hatred.
The young Mormons I have met have always been sincere, kind, respectful and exceptional men. It pains me to see such outward hatred on this site where I have always felt so welcomed in the past. I’m not sure what has happened.
Your post is written with great courage and conviction and I admire you for your stance.
Just a couple of weeks ago- Mr. Romney called Jerusalem the Capital of Israel and it is. It’s been a long time since we have heard such encouraging words.
This Jew stands with you.
agreed, I cannot even believe how many are baving baby tanturms because Jim does not go with their view
I said flawed patriot, sir. Adjectives have meaning.
Romney needs Ryan - as Bush needed Cheney - and will need Conservatives; and he will get even more 'at hand'; if Conservatives stay busy; nominating and voting. Mitt; comes from a political family; he knows he is 'assuming' the power of the people on 'their' behalf; just as GW recognized the same. A 'humility' of power; that is alien to those who, by their narcissism; seek power; and who desire - and are compelled - to wield it.
Despite why - Mitt was 'who' he was; can only look at him now. He has Fathered; raised and not aborted; five children - and appears by every account; committed to his wife and family. Will accept that; at least; as a personal testimony. Think Ryan will influence here, as well. Mitt, too; could fail; and alienate; and so be a 'one term'; but unlike Biden; a capable VP can be 'at the ready' for next Election.
Meantime; we have not only an 'abortion-friendly' President - who thinks of 'pregnancy' as a disease; but one, who possibly, in a most personal way; endorses, homosexuality - and entire agenda. (Mitt will not have a paid 'body man' on his staff; nor full fledged communist/Islamists in his consult as does Obama; who invites a 'death culture' - across the board; where 'all' are vulnerable i.e. not just the 'unborn but the sick/aged who burden Obamacare; and as well; those of religious and political persuasions; who do not walk in Obama 'synch'.
We have a Marxist MO Trojan horse; under the pretense of 'health care'. We have a charlatan President, whose Marxist lights, allow him the pretense of 'saving our economy'; while he collapses it. We have a President, who proudly takes credit for 'his' - so claimed - Country's ruin; and one who is openly hostile to our Military; and of course; to Israel. (Another Obama death wish, for an entire Country?)
With this as Leadership; can only plead that voters step up to the plate; and look to the future; for the right kind of change. 'Change' that will not be possible; if they do not.
No question, Mitt's negatives ARE cringe worthy if not painful to behold. Obama, however; is a freedom-destroying, life and America-threatening; leap, from the worst of Mitt. There are long, ugly, painful 'histories'; - many, still being played out; that inform us - or should; of what Obama's 'fundamental change' means for America; and this sickest of vision; is NOT shared by Mitt Romney - nor Paul Ryan.
All this; allowing that we do, in fact; have an Election 2012.
The religious test prohibition is only on federal laws. It is a restriction against government - not the people. Learn the constitution you value and stop presenting an atheistic argument .
The people are free to use what ever criteria they desire - and that includes religion. If a person is serious about their religion, then the tenants of that religion will provide insight into their morals, thought processes, policies, etc. So put the bigot card away. If you disagree with what is posted, then present official lds doctrine and show what you believe.
Maybe even Satan has his bad days when his mind isn't really in the game.
