Republicans hurt by Tea Party insanity
Red and Black, serving the University of Georgia community ^ | October 11, 2010 | Jeremy Dailey, political science major

Posted on 10/11/2010 10:16:22 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I consider myself to be a man of many tastes.

But there is one taste I do not like.

Tea.

It doesn’t matter what kind it is

Ice tea, hot tea, sweet tea, green tea, black tea or white tea. I hate them all.

Maybe that is why I have such an utter distaste for the Tea Party.

Last January, moderate Republican Scott Brown took the country by storm when Massachusetts, the most liberal state in the Union, elected him to fill the seat of the Lion of the Senate, the late Ted Kennedy. The Tea Party was due much of this victory.

I was ecstatic that my party had united under the Tea Party’s message of limited government, and we were ready to take on the Democrats and their dangerous agenda.

Only nine months later, the Tea Party has become an extremist movement for the radical Christian right, and I’m sitting on the sidelines wondering who is going to represent me.

Don’t get me wrong. I am no moderate.

I’m about as fiscally conservative as one can get.

I’m just smart enough to realize that abortion isn’t going away anytime soon and tolerant enough to not care whether we keep marriage between a man and a woman.

I just want to focus on the economy, stupid.

But the Tea Party has hypnotized my beloved GOP.

And now they are saying this isn’t good enough. I’ve been classified as a RINO (Republican in Name Only) and excommunicated from the He Man Obama Haters Club.

All over the country, the Tea Party and their heroine (more like heroin), Sarah Palin, are leading the charge against “moderates” in favor of their own fringe candidates.

Just recently, the Tea Party knocked longtime Representative Mike Castle out of the Delaware Senate race in favor of radical, perennial candidate Christine O’Donnell.

To put this into perspective, while Americans have been voicing their concerns about unemployment and the rising federal debt, O’Donnell has been busy campaigning against masturbation and medical marijuana.

Does nobody else see the disconnect?

On campus, it seems like I’m the only one who is having this Tea Party problem.

I regularly debate my Republican peers on the adverse affects of the Tea Party.

But to no avail.

Their hearts just seem to melt at the mere mention of it.

So I try to get some consolation from my Democratic adversaries, thinking they would understand my dilemma. But they are also in Tea Party heaven.

They think it will eventually bring about the demise of the Grand Old Party.

And the trouble is, they are right.

If the Tea Party continues to label factions of Republicans as outcasts, they can kiss the moderate and independent vote goodbye.

Any chance of a Republican takeover will perish due to their own ignorance.

And our common goal of limited taxation and fiscal restraint will forever be a dream.

As for me?

I will continue to fight for candidates, namely Republicans, who are the best qualified to move this country forward.

And if the GOP decides to form a Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey Party, they will have my total support.

But if the Tea Party is the future, then they can count me out.

I love these "As a long-time rock-ribbed Republican, I can no longer condone blah, blah, blah.." columns.

He’s an abortion loving, gay marriage supporter who agrees with those points of view as priority over the need for fiscal sanity. Pass him some more Jack Daniels.

I think I heard this guy on the radio before. “Thanks for taking my call, Rush. I’m a lifelong Republican, but let me tell you...”

Imagine how the polls would look if the tea partiers weren’t hurting the GOP so badly.

Somebody should trade this kid a lollypop for his keyboard.

Another uninformed college dumbass. The TEA party has nothing to do with tea. When he gets off his ass and has to get a real job, he may understand. It’s about the TAXES, Dumbass!

The little boy writing this drivel needs to major in a real degree and also read, and comprehend, the documents and letters that were written by our Founding Fathers as they pertained to our country and freedom and liberties.

This little punk is an ignorant, low-class, campus poof.

I’ve been a conservative who voted for Bush twice.

But this Tea Party is making me go liberal Democrat....

*rolls eyes*

LOL, I smell James Carville crawling out of his swamp.....

we should keep an eye out for other versions of this popping up around the country

this does not strike me as authentic

it smells like what Democrat operatives want the message to be about the Tea Party vs. RINOs

It’s about the destruction of our country by enemies within our government and the theft of our freedom.

I’m about as fiscally conservative as one can get.

Whenever somebody has to qualify their "conservatism" with the word "fiscal", my BS meter goes off the grid.

Me too, this guy is mad because Christine O’Donnell beat Mike Castle, a guy who voted for Cap & Tax, Bailouts, Gun Control, prescription drug plan, and no child left behind.

Christine O’Donnell talked about masturbation and pot back in the 90’s on Maher’s show. Today she’s campaigning on low taxes, less gov’t, repealing Obamacare, ending the failed stimulus.

If she had mentioned the other issues than we might have some agreement, but Christine isn’t doing that.

The point is they aren’t fiscal conservatives either, if he was he would have been ticked off with Mike Castle’s record in the House. That’s how you know these guys are frauds, if he said I didn’t agree with Castle on fiscal issues and Christine on social issues he would have been believable. Then he should be asked are you going to support a Marxist Chris Coons or Christine or leave it blank? Once again then we would know about his fiscal conservatism.

One of my problems with RINOs and moderate Republicans is they seem to believe they can separate moral issues from economic issues. Are they really so blind they can’t see the economic issues stem directly from the moral failings of our society? Do they not see that broken families, immorality, addictions, crime, lack of work ethic, an attitude of entitlement and so many other problems our economy is being strained to cure are simply the result of the failure to address the moral issues in a responsible way?

Well little Jeremy, you will grow up some day and realize what a dufus you were in college, and maybe you will even post that confession here at FR. In the meantime, go ahead and vote liberal democrat since you love baby murdering and gay marriage so much, then sit back and watch as the pubs take over the house and senate without your vote, and the five others that think like you.
