You can love Palin without wanting her to be president (Journolist Alert)
Politico ^ | 8/30/10 | Journolist Liberal Ben Smith, pissant's latest hero

A new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll offers what is, I think, a somewhat misleading way to look at Sarah Palin.

The poll finds that 59% of Americans and 40% of Republicans don't think she'd make an "effective president" -- numbers that come very close to disqualifying her even in the primary, if she chooses to run.

This trouble imagining President Palin is constant across the polling since soon after she was chosen as John McCain's running mate, and it reflects both her own lack of experience and the higher bar set for a woman -- Hillary Clinton did years of carefully projecting the kind of strength Mark Penn thought she needed to show to be a plausible contender. (Holmes and Traister think there's now space for a Palin on the left, but the poll numbers suggest otherwise to me.)

In any case, however, it's possible to adore and follow a political leader without wanting him or her to be President of the United States, or even thinking he or she is qualified. The most frequently drawn parallel with Palin is Jesse Jackson -- popular and respected on much of the left for a time, at least, seen as presidential by smaller numbers.

But the Daily Show's Jon Stewart may be a better example.

Thanks for the quotes. I think making predictions that she is the only one string enough to win is not the same as “only one good enough” (implying conservative enough).

Presently, she may be the only one good enough to beat Obama, but there are a number of potential contenders who are certainly conservative enough to be a good president.

As far as the “if GOP rejects her” concerns, that’s not saying others aren’t worthy, but that rejecting her (like you do) is a mistake.

(I don’t intend to debate this, so this may be my last word on the subject.)

As POTUS, at least they’ll stop suing her out of existence.

You found the gold mine of quotes. At least the tip. I always wanted to do that.

How about comments just talking about her great looks on a post asking if she should be president? It is hard to argue that she isnt better looking than Obama!

Interesting Hillbuzz item, thanks.

It’s really a shame they got banned when they tried to post here directly. They would have had a lot to offer.

I stand corrected on point number 1. Thank you. However that still does not change my point. I would be willing to bet that that majority still does not share the same religious concepts as Palin.

Quotes:

Come on, what does she mean by that? When you look at all the things she says, does and attends one can put 2 and 2 together.

Thank you for a civilized discussion no matter how touchy it may be. This country needs more people like you. Cheers.

"“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending U.S. soldiers out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan.”"

Just read the actual quote, it is easy enough to understand.

“neither of them fully buys into the rhetoric coming from the pulpit” Yeah right. How would anyone know?

Thank for the honest post. Cheers! I’m glad we can discuss.

What is God’s plan? That’s what I am asking you my friend.

I don't know, take Palin's advice and try to do the best that you can to follow God's Plan and pray that you are following God's plan.

How long are you going to pester people with this nonsense?

How can you be so sure what Palin does not feel and think?

“I also stand firmly with Israel” That's my question. WHY? Is standing firmly with Israel the equivalent to knowing theft is wrong? Do you see my question? I want to define standing with Israel. Where does this come from? Israel is not just any country. It was a place that was established solely on religion.

Also, what confuses me is that a practicing Jew would consider you an idolater for worshiping Jesus Christ. To begin with one point of MANY, the Jewish religion does not believe Jesus was any kind of Messiah because God would never allow for a human sacrifice. The Crucifixion is considered a human sacrifice which is prohibited in Jewish law. So, I'm trying to understand where this unconditional support for a state that was establish solely on religion comes from it can't possibly be a secular reason. And if it is a divine reason then how does a Christian reconcile honoring 2 covenants.

There is still an attitude ... Margaret Thatcher being an exception, that holds the tenet that woman is not going to be an effective President, based on the difference in men and women. Women tend to be kinder, more forgiving, quicker to forgive, etc. Also more perceptive, and emotional.

Men believe, it takes a man to be President. MO Hillary would be worse that Obama. She is militant and does not care what anyone else wants. Give her the power and watch her wield it mercilessly..MO!
