A new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll offers what is, I think, a somewhat misleading way to look at Sarah Palin.
The poll finds that 59% of Americans and 40% of Republicans don't think she'd make an "effective president" -- numbers that come very close to disqualifying her even in the primary, if she chooses to run.
This trouble imagining President Palin is constant across the polling since soon after she was chosen as John McCain's running mate, and it reflects both her own lack of experience and the higher bar set for a woman -- Hillary Clinton did years of carefully projecting the kind of strength Mark Penn thought she needed to show to be a plausible contender. (Holmes and Traister think there's now space for a Palin on the left, but the poll numbers suggest otherwise to me.)
In any case, however, it's possible to adore and follow a political leader without wanting him or her to be President of the United States, or even thinking he or she is qualified. The most frequently drawn parallel with Palin is Jesse Jackson -- popular and respected on much of the left for a time, at least, seen as presidential by smaller numbers.
But the Daily Show's Jon Stewart may be a better example.

We NEED someone to do this, and I can't imagine anyone doing a better job at this than Sarah.
Would she make a good POTUS? Quite possibly. But the hateful bile the LSM would spew would poison the country and destroy whatever cohesion this country still has.
Anyone we run is going to make the left howl like rabid banshees, but their hatred for Palin is simply off the chart.
I read Glock’s posts and I don't see what is so controversial. It is possible to both love Sarah Palin and not think she is the best choice for POTUS.
And doing so should not open one up to being called a name or having to look at Liberal Kent's stupid pictures.
I've seen legit “concern trolls”, but you can't just call somebody that because you disagree with them. And it is really presumptuous to assume someones motives.
Ohhhh, so thats it! I was wondering what her radical christian foreign policy was too. So you differ with her on the issue of support of Israel. And the reference to Korea only makes sense if she was abandoning Korea to focus on Israel.
By the way,,Protestant denominations accounted for 51.3% of Christians in America, Roman Catholicism, at 23.9%, is the largest individual denomination. So how does that make Catholicism predominant in America? There are double the number of Protestants.
But for arguments sake, accepting your premise that Catholics are dominant, i was not aware that they were anti-israeli anymore.
Palin is your favorite, Palin is the favorite of Republicans and is poised to take the nomination, so you don't want her to?
Since when do we see our conservative choice heading to victory to win the Republican nomination, and that stir up our efforts to derail that win, two years before the election?
I am Catholic, but not all Catholics are Republicans, let alone conservative Republicans, or even conservatives, so that would seem to put your argument on shakey ground, in that Catholics in the mainstream, as you put it, do not vote pro-life as the Church directs.
You’ve cited her prayers. Have you considered that her prayers are “prayers” and only prayers? I also pray nightly for Bibi and for Israel. A tracking of my posts will reveal that much. I also stand firmly with Israel.
As for North Korea, that nutcase is mild by comparison, to the flaming Muslim madman in Iran, who has time and time again threatened to blow the Jewish state off the map, once he obtains the means to do it. I think you’re projecting a lot of your thoughts onto Sarah Palin when it comes to you saying she will conduct her foreign policy as a way for her to “free pass to the afterlife.” I think that’s “absolutely nutz!”
That's quite an interesting take on Palin's possible foreign policy. If we suppose she actually believes that stuff, then I suppose it would be interesting to speculate what she'd do if somebody managed to convince Commander in Chief Palin that some Middle Eastern battle or other was a fulfillment of end-times prophecy.
But of course, all that assumes Palin actually buys into that particular brand of end-times hysteria. I think it makes for fine campfire ghost stories, and like any of us Ms. Palin might well get a delicious thrill from the thought that it's true.
But I seriously doubt that she believes it enough to try to act on it in real life ... and it's highly unlikely that Congress would allow her to get away with it in any case.
Looking at it a different way, there's an interesting parallel between Palin and the beliefs we can impute to her from her choice of churches; and what beliefs we can impute to Obama because he attended Rev. Wright's church. I suspect that although they both have a general affinity for the tone and beliefs of their respective churches, neither of them fully buys into the rhetoric coming from the pulpit.

In a nation that was founded as Protestant, with over 98% Protestants, and that is still majority Protestant, mainstream Christianity is predominantly Protestant in America. That is why the Republican party and conservatism manage to survive.
You are a little loose with quotes also.

My dad was Catholic, mom was protestant. I think Catholics are a very strong part of the mix in the USA. (ie,,,supreme court) But while i think most people except Obama, would call us a Christian nation,, i doubt many people would generally refer to America as a Catholic nation. Not as you would for example, say of Italy, or Mexico, etc.
And thats a huge point you made. Catholics have the same political divides that all denominations do. Some of em are downright liberation theology Marxists,, others couldn’t be more American.

1. I volunteered for a week of my time on my own dime for McCain Palin in Pittsburgh solely because of her in 2008.
2. I have said time and time again if she runs, she has my time, support, $$$ and she is my first choice IF SHE RUNS.
3. I am not convinced she is running.
4. I think she is most effective what she is doing now.
5. I think there are a few others who might be better able to beat ZERO in 2012.
My first and foremost interest is in beating Soetoro, not propping up Palin. If she is the one who can do it and runs, she has my unending support, if not, I want Thune to run.
