Open Message to Mr. Beck (self proclaimed historian). Tonight on your TV show you said that you read the Confederate Constitution and I paraphrase "it had slavery written all over it, all about slavery blah blah blah". You are incorrect sir, I did a word search on the document and the word slavery appears "one" time. Everyone can try it for themselves at the link provided below.
Can never trust a Yankee, even a goofy entertaining one.
Nope. The vast majority, to be sure, but not everyone.
I agree.
I agree.
We are recalling slavery at the moment. It’s bad. Very bad. So bad you wouldn’t want to be a slave. Not ever.
This new form of slavery is as pernicious as the older forms, and should be vigorously stamped out and its practitioners executed.
Ho hum, more 19th century racism...The reason for secession of a state from another state(s) doesn’t have to please the departed state(s). The reason has to please the departing state only. Actually no reason need be given at all. Our founders were to kind to King Geo. III. providing him with the declaration.
All you need to know is about the various conflicts taking place in Arkansas from the mid 1830s onward and the original sentence makes sense.
If you didn't know they were playing "slice and dice" in Arkansas, then it might not make sense.
Only if it was possible to get the desired outcome that way. In Tennessee the pro-slavery gang couldn't get the voters to approve a secession convention, so the Democratic cheats in the legislature went ahead and took the state out of the Union themselves and invited the Confederate army to invade the state. It took Tennessee three years and the help of the Union army to repel the invaders.
Then the document does in fact have very much to do with slavery!
There are at least two articles that deal with slavery and both of them clearly endorse the continuation of the barbaric practice.
How many of the individual state constitutions allow for slavery?
Proud Southerner here...
I hate to tell you that while the word “Slavery” (with the ‘ry’) attached to it may not be on there, do a search for ‘slave’ and it is said 10 times.
Picking hairs just seems ridiculous.
Not in my opinion, the way Mr. Beck was characterizing it he was saying it was all about slavery. The CS Constitution is basically the US Constitution with codification of slavery and by default states rights.

Man, you are funny!
Tennessee DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND ORDINANCE dissolving the federal relations between the State of Tennessee and the United States of America.
First. We, the people of the State of Tennessee, waiving any expression of opinion as to the abstract doctrine of secession, but asserting the right, as a free and independent people, to alter, reform, or abolish our form of government in such manner as we think proper, do ordain and declare that all the laws and ordinances by which the State of Tennessee became a member of the Federal Union of the United States of America are hereby abrogated and annulled, and that all the rights, functions, and powers which by any of said laws and ordinances were conveyed to the Government of the United States, and to absolve ourselves from all the obligations, restraints, and duties incurred thereto; and do hereby henceforth become a free, sovereign, and independent State.
Second. We furthermore declare and ordain that article 10, sections 1 and 2, of the constitution of the State of Tennessee, which requires members of the General Assembly and all officers, civil and military, to take an oath to support the Constitution of the United States be, and the same are hereby, abrogated and annulled, and all parts of the constitution of the State of Tennessee making citizenship of the United States a qualification for office and recognizing the Constitution of the United States as the supreme law of this State are in like manner abrogated and annulled.
Third. We furthermore ordain and declare that all rights acquired and vested under the Constitution of the United States, or under any act of Congress passed in pursuance thereof, or under any laws of this State, and not incompatible with this ordinance, shall remain in force and have the same effect as if this ordinance had not been passed.

Gandolfini was rude/insulting to Beck as Beck stood there holding his young son as they were on their way to the bathroom...
..Gandolfini was in Beck's face....and could care less what the kid heard.
Yes, he apologized later (probably realized Beck has his own radio AND TV show).
Did you see Glenn Beck tonight?

IOW, the difference is slavery.
I repeat, you are one funny guy.
In retrospect, it was a bad decision on Virginia's part. Not only did a lot of destruction occur during the war, but if Virginia had stayed in the Union, West Virginia would not have become a state, and Robert Byrd would not be a US senator.
Plus the burning of Richmond destroyed a lot of records needed for Virginia genealogy.
I agree that Arkansas is a bit of a problem no matter how you approach the matter. Are you referencing Governors Flanigan and Murphy?
I also see Missouri as a bit of a problem no matter how you approach the matter.
Try doing a search for “slav” to include all mentions of forms of word and it is all over the document.
Where is that edit function for posts!!! AAARRRGGHGHHH
IMO The CS Constitution does codify slavery, that doesn't make it ALL about slavery.
