Watching the video of Sarah Palins appearance with William Shatner on the Tonight Show with Conan OBrien, the one word that came to mind was style. Yet, there was more to it than that.
After all, she entered the arena of late night television, a stage that has excoriated her routinely the enemy camp as Chris Matthews might say. Mrs. Palin's has been scoffed at before by Mr. OBrien. The show has featured William Shatner mocking Mrs. Palins tweets by reading them as dramatic recitations.
Still, Mrs. Palin handled her appearance with the aplomb of Beyonce at the MTV Video Music Awards. She exuded the charm of Sophia Loren; the dignity of a Katharine Hepburn.
The blend of these qualities, with the feistiness and intellect of Margaret Thatcher and the forty-something feminine beauty of a Demi Moore, is what makes Mrs. Palin so dangerous to the political establishments of both parties.
She has a certain manner, an allure about her that has endeared her to a wide swath of the American public in a short period of time. She is upsetting a lot of apple carts and the entrenched politicos resent it. They have directed their fire at her.
Indeed, Mrs. Palin has weathered a torrent of vitriol. While her primary critics are liberal Democrats, the bien-pensants of both parties fear and loathe her.
This was evinced recently by Michael Petrillis hortatory article in the Wall Street Journal. Petrillis haughty piece titled, Whole Foods Republicans, had this to say about Mrs. Palin, there's Sarah Palin, whose entire brand is anti-intellectual.
Mr. Petrillis remarks about Mrs. Palins supporters echoed what liberals have said about military personnel in Iraq (Senator John Kerry, D-Mass.: you get stuck in Iraq) and the audience of the Limbaugh show.

You know I cannot stand Juan McCain and I am in no way happy that Sarah feels as she says she does about him, but I really like her and will be supporting her in the primaries. I will vote for just about anyone in the general that has a chance in hell of beating Obomba.
Ditto, The Republican party core principles are now “We Oppose Democrats” and for many here that’s all they have to do, ever. That is good enough principles for being in the minority.
/sarcasm
However, the possibility of going up against her--in essence McCain would be given the ability to hide behind her skirts while he snipes at Hayworth--could preclude Hayworth's entry to the race, thereby nearly guaranteeing a McCain re-election.
And I'd say it's a fair bet that McCain will revert to his old self after getting re-elected. The way you see his protege Lindsey acting today, including his subservience to Obama on various issues on the agenda, is probably a good depiction of how McCain will resume acting after re-election.
she cant turn her back on McCain - even if she wanted to
There is a difference between being respectful and being outright supportive.
It is possible to respect someone, friend or foe, without endorsing their values and objectives, which may in fact run contrary to yours.
John McCain is conservative on some issues.
McCain is an opportunist who will pretend to be a conservative so that gullible conservatives (as well as straight ticket Republicans who don't know any better) will vote for him.
His core principles include being "relevant" and being liked.
Lets talk about how properly the Zero was vetted during the campaign.
You're right that Zero was improperly vetted during the election.
But that is not the topic of the posts on this thread; it is, however, an attempt on your part to draw attention away from the problems regarding McCain and the effective endorsement that he received from Palin.
Reply with the link and I will be happy to answer your comments on that thread. My ping page gets filled every day; inevitably some comments get overlooked.
As for the name calling--e.g., referring to me as a Calormene prince--, I would suggest that you cease and desist, as it is straight up bad manners on your part, especially since I have not called you any names.
“Wow. I couldn’t have been more correct on my call.
Here he is to save the day.
I think he’s a Mobey. Or just the leader of the stoopid posse. Not sure which. “
I noticed that Jim Robinson posts to you occasioally. Always respectfully too. I don’t see any to Lakeshark, respectfully or even disrespectfully. Wonder why that is? Maybe it is a waste of time to post to someone who ignores all facts, and calls you Mobey(for dick) and stoopid. Maybe??
Have fun trashing this thread in the mean time........
especially since I have not called you any names.
Now that's a laugh line by itself.......
They won't be happy, unless (or until) we get another loser. I'll stick with the lady in red, with the kid on her hip. She can certainly win the hearts and minds of the broadest part of the ELECTORATE! Oh, wait. She already is doing it...
I'm really curious just what you expect her to say.
"Yes, even though John McCain's selection of me as his running mate in 2008 catapulted me into national prominence, I'm gonna shiv him in the back by not endorsing his campaign in 2010."
Sane folks will wait a while to see what happens instead of pounding their fists and demanding that Palin turn on McCain.
BTW, 'Moby' actually refers to the singer (if you can call him that) Moby, who urged liberals to troll conservative websites.
“I think hes a Mobey. Or just the leader of the stoopid posse. Not sure which. ”
What do you call this? Calling someone a dick, and stoopid? An endorsement??
“This thread was posted in ‘News/Activism’, meaning anyone is free to post to it, perhaps it should have been posted in ‘Religion’ so the object of your ardent admiration and affection can be properly shielded from the likes of us rogue Freepers?!?”
I think that religion would be more appropriate.
I just finished reading “Rogue” yesterday and it is thick with information about her life in Alaska, the challenges she faced going up every level in politics (all the same centrifuge of back-biting and sniping but higher levels each time) and her philosophy on government’s role in our lives (get out of our way). I loved the book, I love her even more for articulating everything I’ve believed my entire life. God bless Gov. Palin and her family and associates. Wherever God leads her, I will follow.
If Palin is going to win the White House in 2012, she will need the entire GOP along with a fair number of independents.
Who would you rather have as a candidate in 2012?
A RINO wooing conservatives? That doesn't work.
A Conservative telling moderate pubbies to get lost? That doesn't work either.
Now, if you get a Reaganite conservative as the nominee who can get the rest of the party to line up, and who has crossover appeal like Reagan, you can win the White House and have conservatism at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Conservatives are around 40 percent of the American electorate. Which means we cannot win if we don't bring along some moderates. Whether you like that or not, that is the simple reality of numbers.
She could have either stayed quiet on the matter outright, or simply said that he was an honorable man (or another complimentary phrase) and that she would support him in the general election if he won the primary.
Instead, she went much much farther than that and basically promised to support him in the primary, despite all the recent rumblings about Hayworth looking into declaring his candidacy for McCain's seat.
McCain isn’t just another Senator to Palin. He turner her into a national star by picking her as his running mate. Do you REALLY expect Palin to not help out McCain now?
“Sane folks will wait a while to see what happens instead of pounding their fists and demanding that Palin turn on McCain.”
Nobody expects Palin to TURN on McCain. But McCain is a vile man, and a traitor, so she should say something like “McCain doesn’t need my help” or “may the best man win” or preferably nothing.
Sarah Palin would still be a relatively unknown governor without McCain. She will be loyal in return, that is just common sense.
There are times and places to raise a ruckus. This isn't one of them.
