Watching the video of Sarah Palins appearance with William Shatner on the Tonight Show with Conan OBrien, the one word that came to mind was style. Yet, there was more to it than that.
After all, she entered the arena of late night television, a stage that has excoriated her routinely the enemy camp as Chris Matthews might say. Mrs. Palin's has been scoffed at before by Mr. OBrien. The show has featured William Shatner mocking Mrs. Palins tweets by reading them as dramatic recitations.
Still, Mrs. Palin handled her appearance with the aplomb of Beyonce at the MTV Video Music Awards. She exuded the charm of Sophia Loren; the dignity of a Katharine Hepburn.
The blend of these qualities, with the feistiness and intellect of Margaret Thatcher and the forty-something feminine beauty of a Demi Moore, is what makes Mrs. Palin so dangerous to the political establishments of both parties.
She has a certain manner, an allure about her that has endeared her to a wide swath of the American public in a short period of time. She is upsetting a lot of apple carts and the entrenched politicos resent it. They have directed their fire at her.
Indeed, Mrs. Palin has weathered a torrent of vitriol. While her primary critics are liberal Democrats, the bien-pensants of both parties fear and loathe her.
This was evinced recently by Michael Petrillis hortatory article in the Wall Street Journal. Petrillis haughty piece titled, Whole Foods Republicans, had this to say about Mrs. Palin, there's Sarah Palin, whose entire brand is anti-intellectual.
Mr. Petrillis remarks about Mrs. Palins supporters echoed what liberals have said about military personnel in Iraq (Senator John Kerry, D-Mass.: you get stuck in Iraq) and the audience of the Limbaugh show.

I stand corrected and thank you. I knew the quote had an out in it and was, in my estimation, perfectly worded. As a former Arizona resident, I have forwarded my support to JD because he has the stones to call it like it is. I pray he steps up to the plate because we all know McCain will sulk away into RINOville if he is elected again despite his most recent speeches on the Senate floor.
Good day to you across the pond.
I call 'em But Monkeys because they usually start off their post with, "I like Sarah, but...
You are most welcome.
I look at it this way: Endorsing McCain is not going to help her, but NOT endorsing him could hurt her. Loyalty is an important thing when you are out there doing favors (campaigning). You hope to collect those IOU's later on. If she fails to say the 'right things' about McCain it might make it harder to collect when the time comes.
They'll continue celebrating their brilliant move to punish the Republican party for not being pure. I can't wait to see their plan to roll back the health care bill.
Actions speak louder than words.
Palin's PAC has already distributed funds to RINOs such as Graham, McCain, Murkowski, and Hatch.
Palin's SarahPAC Backs Portman, Graham, Hatch (Palin loves RINOs)
FEC finds problems with SarahPAC contributions [to Murkowski, McCain in 2010 primary, general]
You--and a lot of other Palin supporters--are attempting to defend the indefensible.
SarahPAC's contributions to various RINOs, including McCain and Graham, are all a matter of public record in SarahPAC's filings with the Federal Elections Commission in Washington.
Palin's quote, that
is also on the record, as John McCain's 2010 campaign Web site trumpets it quite well, and she has not stepped forward to correct or redact it.
Vetting candidates, or potential candidates, for a public office--and Sarah Palin is no exception--is not "trashing."
It is pointless. Read these posts. It is perfectly okay to re elect McCain, and sell out the conservative cause, if that is the cost of doing business. Incredible but true. Read it and weep.
Here he is to save the day.
I think he's a Mobey. Or just the leader of the stoopid posse. Not sure which.
I didn't like her bragging about being the first Governor to appoint a Climate Change sub-cabinet officer, unless she had gone on to say, 'with the new information, we now know the whole man-caused global warming is a giant hoax.'
So what if she supports McCain? Hayworth hasn’t announced that he is running for office yet. They differed on many issues during the campaign, but, found common ground on others. Sarah Palin was the excitement of the GOP during 2008, and she can’t turn her back on McCain - even if she wanted to. And, I’m sure if she decides to run for President in 2012 - McCain will back her too. You can’t throw everyone under the bus, because none of them is perfect. She’s a staunch conservative and nothing will alter that. John McCain is conservative on some issues.
Now, let’s talk about vetting shall we? Let’s talk about how properly the Zero was vetted during the campaign. What a joke! This isn’t vetting you’re talking about - it’s trashing Sarah in hopes of turning people against her should she decide to campaign for McCain.
No one has argued for perfect political purity, although it is a clever rhetorical exaggeration by those in the Republican Party who would rather not face the hard reality that, without those "certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell [the Republican Party's] numbers," there is literally nothing to hold the Republican Party together except for the Republican brand name.
Unfortunately, many conservatives have forgotten a rather sage bit of wisdom from the last Republican president to actually reduce the size and scope of the Federal government, a man from Vermont named Calvin Coolidge.
To paraphrase Coolidge, politics is merely a means to an end.
That end is necessarily dictated by that set of "certain fundamental beliefs" that Reagan once spoke of.
Without a set of well-defined and shared core principles, and by extension, a well-defined and shared common vision, there is, as I have asserted, nothing to hold a political party together. And, inevitably, a party without a clearly defined purpose will begin to fray and disintegrate into little more than a gaggle of people sniping at each other and powerless to accomplish any goal whatsoever.
The Republican Party of 2009 is temporarily united by the presence of a common enemy, namely Obama and the Democrats in Congress; when that enemy is vanquished, if the Republican Party has not defined its core principles, then it will break up again, or at worst, it will return to its old ways, like a dog to its vomit, of seeking merely to perpetuate its power and to stay "relevant."
This thread will surely become more and more "pure" now.......
Look, Lakeshark, do you intend to actually counter the evidence as provided at post 28?
Or do you prefer to launch insults and slurs at me--i.e., engage in behavior that is a good indicator that you may not have, or are unable for whatever reason to mentally formulate, a rational rebuttal--instead?
Oh, and by the way, insinuating that I am a "mobey" (sic), defined by Urban Dictionary as
An insidious and specialized type of left-wing troll who visits blogs and impersonates a conservative for the purpose of either spreading false rumors intended to sow dissension among conservative voters, or who purposely posts inflammatory and offensive comments for the purpose of discrediting the blog in question.
Then you may want to show that the evidence at post 28, all from reputable, verifiable sources, is in fact false.
Sophisticated Sarah: Palin Is Part Hepburn, Part Loren, Part Thatcher, Part Annie Oakley
I didn't see any mention of McLame in there, yet here you are with the same current defeatism. Nobody has elected you to anything, have they? I seem to think she has a little more experience, and much better credentials.
What is your purpose for showing up on all these Sarah threads, with the sole intent of breeding YOUR discontent? Ronald Reagan had something to say about that. Was he good enough for you? He signed a law that gave "tax refund" money to people that don't pay taxes.
BTW, did you know that Sarah now has more than 1,115,798 supporters on FaceBook now?
Even Piper's getting tired of the SOS-DD from you guys!
You didn't respond at all.
Which leads me to my conclusion, you are either a Mobey, or simply the leader of the stoopid 1%er posse. I'm really not sure which.
