Sophisticated Sarah: Palin Is Part Hepburn, Part Loren, Part Thatcher, Part Annie Oakley
thebulletin.us ^ | Saturday, December 19, 2009 | MICHAEL P. TREMOGLIE

Watching the video of Sarah Palin’s appearance with William Shatner on the “Tonight Show” with Conan O’Brien, the one word that came to mind was style. Yet, there was more to it than that.

After all, she entered the arena of late night television, a stage that has excoriated her routinely — the “enemy camp” as Chris Matthews might say. Mrs. Palin's has been scoffed at before by Mr. O’Brien. The show has featured William Shatner mocking Mrs. Palin’s tweets by reading them as dramatic recitations.

Still, Mrs. Palin handled her appearance with the aplomb of Beyonce at the MTV Video Music Awards. She exuded the charm of Sophia Loren; the dignity of a Katharine Hepburn.

The blend of these qualities, with the feistiness and intellect of Margaret Thatcher and the forty-something feminine beauty of a Demi Moore, is what makes Mrs. Palin so dangerous to the political establishments of both parties.

She has a certain manner, an allure about her that has endeared her to a wide swath of the American public in a short period of time. She is upsetting a lot of apple carts and the entrenched politicos resent it. They have directed their fire at her.

Indeed, Mrs. Palin has weathered a torrent of vitriol. While her primary critics are liberal Democrats, the bien-pensants of both parties fear and loathe her.

This was evinced recently by Michael Petrilli’s hortatory article in the Wall Street Journal. Petrilli’s haughty piece titled, “Whole Foods Republicans,” had this to say about Mrs. Palin, “…there's Sarah Palin, whose entire brand is anti-intellectual.”

Mr. Petrilli’s remarks about Mrs. Palin’s supporters echoed what liberals have said about military personnel in Iraq (Senator John Kerry, D-Mass.: “you get stuck in Iraq”) and the audience of the Limbaugh show.

” Let’s grow up and move on for the time being. What she does from her on out will be observed by all of us, and we can solidify our beliefs as things play out.”

AGREED!

...Margaret Thatcher? This is downright painful. Margaret Thatcher helped lead the world out of the Cold War. I'm not going to dignify that by comparing Palin to it.

Thank you very much, D1. Lately I've ignored the twits who malign Baroness Thatcher and her remarkable achievements by suggesting that the ex-Gov. from Alaska is somehow in the same league.

I'm shuttin' up, now....maybe...

Thank you...

For shuttin' up, or for being in agreement with your, "All right you kids, go your rooms, now! And, don't make me come up there!" post? (Which I loved)

That's the funniest thing I read so far today. You talk about me being obsessed, as you TROLL from thread to thread with the SPECIFIC INTENT of posting your brand of your truth.

If anybody is in over their head, FRiend, it surely isn't on this end. I have all the help I need, without your constant drivel and character assassination attempts.

When you have no argument, you attack the person. I guess you take your cues from Zero.

BTW, did you know that Sarah has more than 1,116,259 supporters on FaceBook now?

It repeats what the left claims is a characteristic of conservative Christians (“uneducated and easily led”)

The Stupak Amendment in the House successfully used that theory to hoodwink the Christian Right to pressure the R's to vote for it.

The House Republicans were too weak, and stupid, to resist.

Thus, we have a Health Care bill passed by the House, soon another to pass the Senate, and, if one of the theories proposed on Rush is used, passed by both Houses yet this year.

The Left is a lot of things, but it looks like they have successfully used "It repeats what the left claims is a characteristic of conservative Christians (“uneducated and easily led”)

the man did nominate her for VP and as such she would be seen by some to be ungrateful for not supporting him. If she appeared ungrateful then those within power now would be less likely to support her in the future

I'm amazed at how many Freepers have forgotten who pulled her out of obscurity, and attack him with a fury.

Without McCain, she would still just be the relatively unknown governor of ALaska

RE :”BTW, did you know that Sarah has more than 1,115,901 supporters on FaceBook now?” (WVKayaker to mkjessup #68)

This is about the 100th time this has been posted at FR. This is the Republican party's last hope. Facebook fans, Pathetic.

Back last summer the Palin infatuation crowd was posting “Sarah single handedly brought down Health reform with a single facebook entry”. Tell that to Reid, Pelosi and Obama today.

I don’t think Sarah is going anywhere. Once the book tour is over, those few that are still in power will rule the airwaves. People like Jim DeMint wil be around. Sarah will be on Oprah. She might last long enough to help McCain.

I think she’s ten times more polished as a speaker now than she was this time last year

Agree, just wish someone would work on the tone of her voice which comes across as harsh and screechy at times---not to mention her accent.

to benefit their fave, whom I believe to be Duncan Hunter

There are many candidates they varioulsy support, some Baldwin, some for Barr, some for Ron Paul, anybody that can get less than 1%. It allows them to feel pure.

Dang, the stoopid posse just destroyed this thread didn't they? I think they all need a waaahmbulance and to be sent to their rooms.

I was just checking in to see if my prediction would hold of them wrecking the thread with their insufferable twaddle(I was right), hope to be back later.

Pathetic...

Yep, that pretty well sums up your Anti-Sarah ping crew. You're all trolls and want to take away from the competition. Your more-conservative-than-thou diatribes are stale, and produce nothing other than strife. That's apparently your goal. Trolls are called trolls because they produce nothing other than strife. You, therefore, are trolls. You spend so much time generating heat, and do nothing to bring light. That's your problem, trolls.

You are obviously from the dark side. Slither away now, SPD trolls...

BTW, did you know that Sarah has more than 1,116,355 supporters on FaceBook now? The number keeps growing every time I do it. I also post different pictures to get the attention I desire. Thanks again...

Everybody's Mom-in-Chief!

Palin's PAC has already distributed funds to RINOs such as Graham, McCain, Murkowski, and Hatch.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the links.

To 117 - LOL The trolls are like a woman who jumps up on a chair, shouting "EEK!" when a mouse runs by. In the troll's case the mouse is Palin simply uttering 'I support McCain'.

By the way, have any of the trolls explained how exactly Palin's opinion of McCain would affect how she would govern if elected to the Presidency? No? Didn't think so. Then again, logic, however simple, isn't their forté.
