Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.
Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.
"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

You're welcome, and no I'm not. I was subscribed several months ago to several newsletters, and keep forgetting to re-up since moving, thank YOU for the reminder. :)
..nor will he be--ever
This flame war has produced a lot of harsh feelings, but reality has to set in some time.
--the base of the GOP is predominantly the Religious Right
--the Mayor nor any openly social liberal will not survive the process.
There are a handful of qualified Republican governors who would make good candidates--and yes I'm not fully convinced that Vice President Cheney will not run. The landscape now is not what it will be by game time...
bttt
First, not a single person who had made the claim that Rudy wants to pick "strict constructionist" judges has been able to provide a shred of proof that he EVER said that. You're making stuff up.
Second, Rudy's record on immigration is worse than the President's, is worse than every Republican candidate's, and worse than even the announced Democrat candidates. Rudy provided a sanctuary city for, as he admits, 400,000 illegal aliens. He provided the "city money" and benefits. He tried to "regularize" them and refused to admit that they were committing crimes. He refused to cooperate with the INS in enforcing immigration laws and even sued the Federal Government to try to get a legal ruling allowing him to flout the law. When that failed, he simply flouted the law. Again, you are making stuff up.
Which is why the GOP got its butt kicked in the midterms.
You guys keep pushing religious busybodies, you're going to keep losing elections.

"While in Ohio, Rudy called into the Bill Cunningham radio show. Speaking about the Supreme Court, Rudy said: "Justices Roberts and Alito were both colleagues of mine [in the Reagan Justice Department] - people I worked with and I admire tremendously. I thought that they were inspired choices that the President made - inspired in many ways, because they also were people who had a strong conservative background and strict constructionists." He added, "Justice Scalia was also a colleague of mine...and he probably would have been my choice for Chief Justice."http://giulianiblog.blogspot.com/2006/11/rudy-id-pick-scalia-as-chief-justice.html
There ya go.
..I think if you will look back the last 30 years, it's when we try to be too much like the other side is when we lose--I agree with Rush there...
I think you need to leave the social issues alone and focus on the meat-and-potato conservatism that Rudy is doing.
Thank you for providing a shred - a tiny shred. But it doesn't come close to what is claimed. Show me where Giuliani promised that he would appoint "strict constructionist" judges and not where he was praising a couple of guys from his days in the Justice Department. Others claim that Rudy said that Scalia was his "favorite justice". I'm sure that this the quote they're referring to. In fact, Scalia was another of Rudy's colleagues and he never said that he was his "favorite".
But, put that aside. What intelligent person believes that someone who strongly opposes overturning Roe v. Wade would appoint a single constructionist judge? Roe v. Wade is an atrocity of law, feces piled upon the U.S. Constitution, and the polar opposite of anything that a constructionist judge would have anything to do with. Yet Giuliani supports it. Only a very dense person would believe that he also supports appointing constructionist judges who, using their constructionist interpretation of the Constitution, would overturn Roe v. Wade at their first opportunity.
No problem, though I imagine we are still going to vigorously disagree about rudy's worth to the Republican party.
..I can't be selective about what conservative principles to stand for...

As you anti-Rudy people love to point out, Rudy is not an official candidate yet. Therefore it makes no sense to ask for specific quotes of his saying what he would do as President. I think, however, this quote strongly suggests what his position will be. Also, wanting Scalia appointed as Chief Justice makes very clear the point that he is Rudy's favorite justice.
Also one can be both pro-abortion and against Roe v. Wade. In fact many people are. I believe he stance on this is a "states rights" one, but I don't have a quote at this second. Please show me a quote of his where he "strongly opposes overturning Roe v. Wade".
Good luck and hang tough, your belated friend, DS.

Here's a good article on Rudy and abortion.
You can't get much more "meat and potatoes conservatism" than the 2nd Amendment and Pro-Life issues, and RINO-rudy is NOT "doing" ONE damn thing about them, except taking the LIBERAL gun-grabbing and pro-death positions.
For the last time (O.K., so you RINO-lovers probably won't let this be the last time I have to mention this), these VITAL CONSTITUTIONAL, LIFE-OR-DEATH RIGHTS are NOT mere "social" issues.

Nope, not making anything up. I've also heard him praise Roberts and Alito as ideal justices many times on Hannity.
