Bush will win on Immigration to save the Republican Party.

Posted on 03/27/2006 9:53:41 AM PST by Pukin Dog

Just a little dose of reality for some of you going nuts over the Immigration issue, because there is NO chance that you will win on the border enforcement issue. No chance whatsoever. Only after a migrant worker program passes, making most of these illegal aliens legal, is there any chance at all to have meaningful border enforcement.

Bush is not running for office anymore, but the Republican Congress is in need of a big victory in November. This issue will kill our chances to maintain the majority, and knowing that, Bush will likely veto any bill making illegal immigration a felony, if that bill does not include the migrant worker program (call it amnesty if you want) needed to hold onto Business and Hispanic support for the Republican Party.

The Illegal Immigration Genie is out of the bottle, folks. You can’t stuff her back in without losing the House and/or Senate in November. Pragmatic minds will rule in the end, and that is a bitter pill you best swallow now.

FReepers can’t will elections for the Republican Party, but we sure can go a long way towards losing them, if we can’t put our common sense ahead of our passions on this issue. I live in San Diego County, and I see the problems with illegal immigration on a daily basis.

Whether you like it or not, much of the commerce of this country does depend on these folks to do jobs that Americans won’t do for the prevailing wage.

So, you have a choice, you can demand the border enforcement bills on their own, or you can swallow hard and consider everything you will lose if we turn off 10-15% of the electorate, in addition to the business community that depends on these workers. Yeah, they broke the law, and so do the people who hire them.

So what?

Yeah, I said it, SO WHAT? The time to be worried about that was when there were REAL Republican majorities in the Border States. It is too late now. This is a problem that cannot be solved, but only managed.

It is possible to be right and stupid at the same time. Pete Wilson tried this a few years ago, got all kinds of support for it. It passed, and Pete Wilson is gone. Then a judge overturned it anyway. That is exactly what you can expect to happen with these current bills as well. Some judge will put an injunction on enforcement, but by the time that happens, we will be knee-deep into impeachment proceeding under a Democrat Congress.

Bush won’t let that happen, neither will smarter members of the Senate and House. You won’t win, you can’t win, but you can shoot yourself and the Republican party in the head (even if you are not a member) by pursuing a program that does not include amnesty or whatever you want to call it.

We lost this one.

Get over it. There are bigger battles ahead.

You're pretty mouthy ... and wrong.

Why thank you! I've been telling people that!

going for the employers who break the law is the way to go, IMHO. Make the penalty so big [Kinky Friedman said something like $10,000 per head!] the employers won't think it's attractive any more to hire cheap labor.

That's the only way to go. Once no one will hire illegals, then illegals won't have a need to come.

See ya.

If Bush's scamnesty goes through, we are no longer a sovereign nation.

We will only cease to be a sovereign nation, when we can no longer blow the crap out of another nation that wants to find out.

You keep calling them parents. I don't think you're getting that the children are incidental to them. Meal tickets. What you have quoted me saying was taken from direct experience I had as a welfare worker in South Texas.

Of course, you don't have to take my word for it. But I guarantee you, they are not 'parents' in the sense of the word as you use it. Respectfully submitted, and thank you for your service.

They know it and that's why they come here. They take advantage of the system. Being born in Germany didn't make my SIL an automatic German citizen. Same should apply here.

They have and will continue to play we American taxpayers as fools.

I have to agree with you. It's become political hand grenades to talk immigration. Why? It has to be because of the candidates' need to salvo their big business constituents.

They are. I use it in the sense that they are the biological parents. Being a Father or a Mother to a child is a whole different thing.

In my book, parents are the folks that conceived the child.

Well, I guess you don't mind all those welfare payments on YOUR state's budget, but Indiana can't afford it. And in case it hasn't yet occurred to you, those children are citizens and have a legal right to welfare payments. Sure, some parents will take their children home, particularly if they are small. But older children, especially those in middle and high school, will probably be left here with friends so that they can apply for college and get jobs in the USA. Until they are 18, we will be paying for their upkeep.

Hell, those hypothetical welfare payments will be a bargain compared to what we're paying now for illegal aliens and their children. It costs Arizona $3 billion alone because of illegals, their access to free healthcare, and the fact that we have to educate their offspring.

But you miss the fact that most deported illegals take their children who have received ill-gotten citizenship home with them. Let's secure the border and then we'll figure out how to deal with the fewer problems that crop up. Heck, I'll even support a guest worker plan when - and only when - we push the criminal invaders back across the border and build a wall to keep them from crossing illegally. Then, we can start determining who can enter and who can't in a more sane manner. The parents and their citizen child MAY be able to come back. But that will have to happen on OUR terms, not their's.

Yeah, unless we beat them at their own game. And I want that. What gets me is that they come in and have it better than ever and then take a nice older neighborhood and make it look like Tijuana. Why? They tear it down themselves instead of aspiring to the better life they came for! [/rant]

>>>>What I do, is take advantage of available labor, and I don't ask people who WANT TO WORK whether or not they are here legally.

Someone mentioned you were part of the problem. You just confirmed their suspicions. You hire illegals. What a fool you are. You're damaging US sovereignty and exacerbating a horrible problem. You have some gall posting this thread. Absolutely unAmerican. I hope yo get caught and severely fined for your unpatriotic behavior.

Btw, you're credibility was questionable before you posted this thread. You're credibility is now officially in the toilet.

Well, I for one hope you don't leave. Especially if you think it is because I get some special treatment around here. You are one who should remember what a jerk I used to be around here, and how I made the decision to reign it in. In short, I took my ego out of it. Anyone who does that ought be able to stick around and argue all day long without getting bent out of shape. I'm asking you to stay.

And discretion is the better part of valor, or however that goes. MI, I mean you no disrespect. You are obviously a person of great honor and concept of duty, chivalry.

But I've seen these men, these immigrants, caring only for themselves, beating women and ignoring children except for the boys that are their namesakes and for whom they get SS cards!

I'm all for Capitalism and free market,

That's odd, you said "neither" when I asked you if you were for Capitalism and free market.

but unlike the poster I was speaking to, I don't think it will work with zero regulation as she suggested.

So you are opposed to government set wage and price laws?

(i.e. laws against hiring illegals)

And just for the record, hiring illegals is already against the law.

Anytime. This thing will get much hotter before it gets better. My personal opinion is that the Senate will strip enough of the House bill out as to make compromise between the two impossible resulting in a stalemate and nothing happening until after November.

This is as hot a potato as any of them have ever seen and I don't think to a man/woman they want a piece of it prior to November.

It's for just that reason that we need to be in their ears screaming at them even while they sleep. I want to be in their damn dreams giving them fits over this.
