Well, I guess you don't mind all those welfare payments on YOUR state's budget, but Indiana can't afford it. And in case it hasn't yet occurred to you, those children are citizens and have a legal right to welfare payments. Sure, some parents will take their children home, particularly if they are small. But older children, especially those in middle and high school, will probably be left here with friends so that they can apply for college and get jobs in the USA. Until they are 18, we will be paying for their upkeep.

Hell, those hypothetical welfare payments will be a bargain compared to what we're paying now for illegal aliens and their children. It costs Arizona $3 billion alone because of illegals, their access to free healthcare, and the fact that we have to educate their offspring.

But you miss the fact that most deported illegals take their children who have received ill-gotten citizenship home with them. Let's secure the border and then we'll figure out how to deal with the fewer problems that crop up. Heck, I'll even support a guest worker plan when - and only when - we push the criminal invaders back across the border and build a wall to keep them from crossing illegally. Then, we can start determining who can enter and who can't in a more sane manner. The parents and their citizen child MAY be able to come back. But that will have to happen on OUR terms, not their's.

Well, there really isn't that much difference in our point of view, except that you choose such volatile rhetoric. You are probably right that the cost would be less. However, acting like you don't care about the welfare of the chidren is a losing issue politically. The liberals already have the talking points printed where they accuse the Republicans of creating millions of immigration orphans, splitting families and causing undue hardship. The TV networks will have daily tear-jerk stories about families being split up...with beautiful children with big sad eyes staring into the cameras.

I honestly think that we need to think about ALL the complications of each aspect of this issue, and play this smart. Despite the rightness of one's cause, one can lose on the PR front and thus lose the battle.
