ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
Now we have FReepers using terms like 'shrub', and talking impeachment.
Fence stradlers or duers who love to stir the nest imho.
I agree way to many boat jumpers...
Oil?
Nothing else matters? Don't want to hear the why's and where for's?
Pathetic.

The UAE is NOT taking over our port security like you have probably been told to believe from Bush hating IDIOTS like Mike Savage. The UAE is merely taking over the business management portion. Port Security is still handled by the DHS and the Coast Guard. And more so now than ever before!
Worth repeating...
Oh, thanks for sharing THAT song. Humming right along...
I seem to remember him swearing to "defend the the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic..."
...and, if he will not do it, and lets the proverbial "fox" guard our "hen house" home ports, then, by God, he is a "Shrub" and should be impeached!
Try to wait until you can get more of the actual facts, and then start over with the analysis.
This is nothing more than a change in controlling interest in a company. Nothing changes at our ports. Nothing with security will change. UAE DP World already does our security for foreign inspection of containers. UAE works with us in the war on terror, and if that changes we can pull the leases.
We can't stop the sale of a foreign company to another company, all we can do is pull the leases, and we can do that later -- just pass a law allowing us to pull the leases if a REAL security issue comes up.
The only reason the administration said ANYTHING AT ALL about this is because the law required that they objectively analyse sales like this for security concerns. They did their job and they said it would not risk our security.
This was NOT the administration selling ports to UAE -- there is NO sale of anything by the administration. This was not a turnover of our ports to the UAE, the ports are staying here under the same control. The ports are LEASED. The companies are local. They will still be local.
The only change is that instead of the profits going to foreign investors in the O&P company, they will get 6.7 billion dollars, and the profits will instead go to the UAE DP World company. Some money will then goe to the UAE government directly, as opposed to in the U.S. where the government takes the money by taxation.
UAE was previously not a great country, but since 9/11 they have become an ally in the war on terror. Don't assume that just because they are arab, they can't be trusted at all. We should verify, and we do verify, but we need allies in the mid east, and can't stab them in the back out of ignorant fears.
Show me any evidence of a security issue, rather than xenophobia, and I'll listen. If there are real security issues, I believe the president would stop the sale, or void the leases.
Let's get congress to give him that authority, not play political games because it's easy to bash muslims and arabs.
Who is the one hyperventilating?
Bush is not just saying that he likes the deal.
He is saying that even if the Congress, controlled by Republicans, are against, even if Governors, some Republicans, are against, if his base, as shown on this thread, are against, he will nevertheless force it on the American people.
Technically speaking, you're probably correct about this. However, I suggested yesterday that the governors of those states where the six P&O-operated ports are located could probably do a lot of damage to the deal simply by suggesting that they will make every attempt to terminate P&O's existing contracts upon completion of the sale to the UAE-owned company.
They also are going to do business with Hamas.
UAE, Palestine to set up a joint investment firm
Ha ha ha. Defend that, defenders of the port deal. Man this is getting good. Its like Spock playing chess on four different levels. We are down on the ground floor, and Hamas is moving its pawns up top.
"From all accounts, the 9/11 hijackers were nice, friendly folks until 9/11."
But those guys never brought me home made soup.
While at the same time, the fact that Arabs operate most of the ports that our Navy Ships dock in when overseas will go right over their heads.
Or maybe the fact that there is not a single major U.S. owned Port Operation in the entire U.S.?
I think you will find the Supreme Court looking poorly upon any legislation which suggests that foreigners from a country largely made up of white-skinned people can make deals in the U.S., where those of brown-skin cannot. This deal is done. BS. Commerce issues are decided on merit. We are not required to honor contracts with hostile nations. Reasonable people are requesting open scrutiny. Unless you believe that the Republican majority leader is unreasonable, and that Jimmy Carter is intellectually superior in all things foreign relations.
try reading some of my posts
"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything... per my mom"
I stand for the integrity and sovriegnty of my country.
She didn't, but I would assume the same-level officials in the Dutch and British companies that received such info would receive such info in the Dubai company.
Reality
Now we have FReepers using terms like 'shrub', and talking impeachment.
why am I not surprised....
