ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
That's all well and good, except that nobody is talking about an arab country guarding our port cities.
If we WERE talking about an arab country guarding our port cities, that would truly be silly and we would all be against it.
But since we are NOT talking about that, or anything remotely related to that, saying so does nothing but obfuscate the real issue, which is not security.
Some people own a company, and want to sell the company. The buyer is another company, which is owned by the UAE government. The ports will not be run by the UAE, or even by DP World, or even by O&P, but by the same american subsidiaries that run the ports now, with american workers, trained in running our ports and in our security measures.
DP World gives O&P stockholders 6.7 billion dollars, and hopes to earn it back in the long run from a share of the profits from operating ports around the world that O&P has leases or contracts for. That's all that this is.
If you are nervous, have congress pass a law making it easy for the President to break the leases for "national security" reasons. Right now there is NO EVIDENCE of any security concern with this deal.
Acting in the absense of any rational basis would be rightly seen as simple muslim-hating, arab-bashing. IT would prove the terrorists right, and give comfort to our enemies. It would undermine a country that has been our ally since 9/11, which has endured increasing terrorist attacks because of their support of us.
If we work at it, we could turn UAE into another Iran.
But it is just so easy to yell "Don't turn our port city security over to an arab government."
I do listen to Savage most every night. I'm not an isolationist or a buchaninite though, no way! Only tuned into Rush today to hear how he would spin this. Listened to Rush from 1991-2005. Stopped last year this time when it became so obviously quiet regarding what this administration was doing to Israel, not a dang word he would say.
I'm almost convinced that the US and this administration has (past tense) joined with the rest of the world in coming up AGAINST Israel and everything spoken is just lip service. How can you explain the total media silence regarding the so many very VIOLENT!!! things that have been done to the settlers, in Gaza, Amona etc!!!

He's probably getting paid a ton by the Arabs, and would rather sell out the country if he stands to profit by it.

I have come to the conclusion that the latest Islamic plan to conquer Europe after the Turks failed outside Vienna over 4 centuries ago is to occupy it with muzzies to the point where they can gain enough political strength to accomplish their goal peacefully through the ballot box. Once they do that, the gloves would come off and the iron fist of sharia law would be exposed.
They seem to be a patient enough bunch, it may take another half century to accomplish the plan. It was coming along quite nicely before the cartoon riots showed the world what kind of childish maroons we're dealing with, and that fiasco may set the plan back a decade or two.

Mr. Bush must consider himself above explaining his actions. And this really scares me silly.
So you're saying that when a security alert is issued, the port workers and non-cleared managment wouldn't be told by managment to keep an eye out for something suspicious?

Can someone please explain to me WHY this is good? Do not sit there and make excuses along the lines of "knee-jerk reaction," tell me WHY I should be happy this is happening? I fail to see any logic behind the idea.

Remind me why I voted for Bush: he has favored 'affirmative action', racial preferences, unrestrained and illegal immigration, out-of-control spending, all during the time when he has sent US troops to die in a country that hates us and to kill people who hate us to impose democracy on a people that love fanatical religious dictatorship.
Ye gads! Could this be yet another scathingly brilliant ploy of the evil genius Carl Rove, to get the DemRats to ultimately hand over this deal to Halliburton rather than lose face over the stink they've made about this deal that favors UAE?
